Sydney Leroux: Soccer Star Reacts To Pregnancy-Shaming Internet Trolls
Soccer star Sydney Leroux recently posted a picture of her and her husband, English soccer player Dom Dwyer, happily tubing behind a boat on the lake on Instagram. While the pair seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves, there were some people who felt Sydney wasn’t making the right choices for her baby.
In the photo, Sydney and Dom are seen riding on a large blue tube tied to the back of a boat. They are both lying on their backs and appear to be safely secured to the tube. Although it is impossible to tell exactly how fast the boat is going from the picture, it doesn’t appear as though they are traveling at an unsafe speed, as Dom is able to sit up and give his wife a kiss as they move through the water.
“if the boat is making a wake…..um that’s going fast. it’s advised to not even go on boats while pregnant, and if you do…for it to be calm waters. smh. why risk it. hope is an old picture,” one Instagram user wrote, while another added, “Ur gonna kill ur baby.”

Still, other Instagram followers came to Sydney’s defense, reassuring the trolls that the U.S. Women’s National Team forward would never do anything to put herself or her baby in danger.
“Guys… They probably aren’t even going that fast.. Chill out she wouldn’t do anything that would put herself or her baby in danger,” one Instagram user wrote.
“People just need to calm the heck down with their ‘is that safe’ comments. She wouldn’t do anything to risk their baby, she’s not dumb and she can make her own decisions. She and Dom are both on their backs which means that they aren’t even going fast, chill people!!” another wrote.

Sydney Leroux first announced she and her husband were expecting back in January. At the same time, she revealed that she would be skipping this year’s Olympics in Rio to focus on her pregnancy, which is why she was so shocked to see all the negative comments on her post. Leroux was so bothered by the comments that she shared an open post in response to the pregnancy-shaming trolls. Along with a photo of her standing on the boat staring out into the horizon in her bikini, Sydney shared the following message.
“It’s unfortunate that I have to say something but after a number of comments like: ‘you’re going to give birth to a dead fetus’ or ‘you just killed your baby’ I have to remind you that this is MY body. MY body is the body that is creating life. MY body is the one that has stretch marks and cellulite and varicose veins and sore hips and back pain that runs down my legs. MY body is the body that is tired and sore and emotional and the happiest it’s ever been.
“So if I want to jump in a pool, go on a tube and slowly ride around with my husband, dance like an idiot or work out I am absolutely going to. Leave your awful comments to yourself and let me enjoy MYSELF and MY body the way I want to.”
