Daniel Day-Lewis may have already won the award for best political doppelganger for his uncanny resemblance to Abraham Lincoln, but Jane Fonda could be coming in a close second as Nancy Reagan.
The world got a first look at Fonda as Reagan today when Oprah Winfrey tweeted a photo from the set of The Butler.
According to Advocate, Winfrey is playing Gloria Gaines, the wife of Cecil Gaines (played by Forest Whitaker), the white house butler that served under 8 presidents. The movie will follow Gaines as he butlers for Richard Nixon (John Cusack), Dwight Eisenhower (Robin Williams), John F. Kennedy (James Marsden), Ronald Reagan (Alan Rickman), and Lyndon B. Johnson (Liev Schrieber).
Winfrey tweeted a photo from the set, writing:
“Director @LeeDaniels, @JaneFonda as Nancy Reagan, Alan Rickman as Prez Reagan and me gonna be a long nit”
Due to the scope of the movie, Fonda will only appear in a few scenes. Still, the casting choice made headlines earlier this year since Fonda is an outspoken liberal activist.

Do I think it was a good casting choice? As a Vietnam vet who knows a traitor when he sees one, No. It's actually a crime but one could expect nothing less from Fonda or Hollywood.
I'm not fond of Fonda, but Nancy R was terrible first lady, so I don't care.

As a vet I wouldn't watch anything with fonda in it.What makes hollywood think feelings against this traitor have changed.Instead of worryin' about politics, hollywoods elite should worry about puttin' out a desend movie, insteada the crap they been puttin' out for the last 10 years.

Nancy Reagan was a fine Lady, Mother, Wife, Friend and President Ronald Reagan's Help meet. I consider it most disrespectful to cast someone with such low moral character to pretend to be Mrs. Reagan for any reason. We will not go see this. My children know the truth because I have told them, they will not be fooled. What a black day for America.
