Marc Summers Coming Out Of Retirement For The Return Of ‘Double Dare’ At San Diego Comic-Con 2016

Some call it one of the best kids’ games shows. Double Dare is easily one of the best games shows to ever grace the television airwaves. Nickelodeon helped matters by having one of the best hosts imaginable in Marc Summers, and it’s hard to believe, but it has been 30 years since it all began. To celebrate that fact, the show and Summers are making their return for a very limited engagement at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con.

As reported by E! Online, the 30th anniversary of Double Dare will be celebrated at this year’s SDCC, but it’s going to be for one night only. According to Nickelodeon, this will be Summers’ first time doing the show in 16 years.

That’s rather hard to believe since so many people started watching the show before they were even 16-years-old.

The show that was made famous by dares, double dares, physical challenges, and an overly disgusting (yet awesome) obstacle course is going to be the centerpiece of Nickelodeon’s “The Splat.” For those that are in attendance, it’s going to be an incredible treat that will be unlike any other.

For those that aren’t fortunate enough to be there, you’re not going to miss out entirely. On July 22, The Splat will Facebook Live the one-night only return of Double Dare at 9:30 p.m. PT, and that’s a great thing, because anything could happen.

It is going to be a true flashback to the days of old, as the Red Team will take on the Blue Team in a series of trivia questions and physical challenges. Some of the old school obstacles such as the Double Dare Nose, the Human Hamster Wheel, the Wringer, and Down the Hatch are all making their comebacks, as well.

This whole crazy ordeal will be hosted by Marc Summers, who will also be available for special question and answer sessions, as well.

Nickelodeon is really trying to make a big splash (or splat) at the Comic-Con this year, as they are bringing back even more than just Double Dare. Beginning on Monday, July 25, there will be a special autograph signing and photo session with Marc Summers at the Nickelodeon booth.

Making matters even better, though, is that Nickelodeon is bringing forth a lot of old-school memories that will be incredible to see again. For Comic-Con, Nick will also have presence from numerous others, including the following.

  • Legends of the Hidden Temple
  • Hey Arnold!
  • Rocko’s Modern Life
  • Invader Zim
  • CatDog
  • Rugrats
  • Aaahh!!! Real Monsters

It’s obvious that Nickelodeon is really pushing the promotion of the live-action TV movie for Legends of the Hidden Temple, and they’re doing it in an amazing way. Daily, con-goers will also have the chance to go through a virtual reality 360-degree experience and tour of the temple.

The “Happy Happy! Joy Joy!: 25 Years of Nickelodeon Original Animation” presentation on Thursday, July 21, is sure to be one of the most popular of the entire Comic-Con.

It’s really going to be hard to beat Nickelodeon as far as nostalgia goes, but the other panels and presentations at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con will be loaded as well. Using Double Dare as a platform is a great way for Nick to draw a lot of attention, and it’s working already.

Fans around the world have loved Marc Summers for his exuberance, his personality, and his overall friendly demeanor. It’s also hard not to like the guy for the long fight he has put up against Leukemia and numerous other medical disorders. Those at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con are in for a treat with the return of Double Dare and all the insanity and good times that it will bring.
