Canada Day 2016: Stars Celebrate, And Canada’s ‘Most Favorite’ Justin Becomes A Super-Hero

Happy Canada Day 2016! It’s time to celebrate the “great white north” with a whole day set aside just for that northern country. Canada is the second largest country in the world, after only that other land of fur hats and snow, Russia. Canada Day 2016 is celebrated from sea to shining sea, beginning in the easternmost province, Newfoundland (always pronounced with the accent on “new”) all the way across the prairies to British Columbia on the west coast, and the Pacific Ocean.

Hollywood Life reports that in 2016, Canada’s “biggest stars” are taking the time to celebrate just as much as ordinary people. Shawn Mendes, William Shatner, Justin Bieber, and the other Justin, Canada’s “hunky Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau,” are all out at the “best party ever” as they make sure to “show Canadian pride” for their homeland.

Bieber, 22, “kicked off” Canada’s 2016 country wide party with a Canada flag emoji that showed a “cartoon Justin” with the red-and-white maple leaf Canadian flag. Bieber originally comes from London, Ontario, one of the Canadian cities that is actually far south of the 49th parallel, the line of the Canada-USA border throughout the rest of the country.

Singer Shawn Mendes, 17, joined in the chorus of “love for his country” by tweeting a Canadian flag along with three red hearts, and Deadmau5 wrote “Fireworks time!” in his happy Canada Day tweet.

Superstar K.D. Lang remembered her Canadian roots on this special day, too.

American celebrity fans of Canadian stars had some Canada Day wishes for their northern “neighbours” (that’s “neighbor” spelled in Canadian), and Andy Richter tipped his hat to Canadian folk legend Gordon Lightfoot with a tweeted photo.

Others are “blasting” some Canadian songs to get into the Canada Day spirit and honor their northern neighbors, and Canadian singers are providing lots of music for their American friends to listen to.

Canada’s “most favorite Justin” is Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (not the Biebs), and Trudeau, 44, was out and about for Canada Day 2016, celebrating Canada’s birthday with a Canada Day 2016 message to all Canadians. Trudeau tweeted a link to his speech, which highlighted Canada’s commitment to diversity.

“Today, as we celebrate our nation’s birthday, let’s also celebrate our diversity. It united in the past, it binds us together today and it’s at the very heart of our future’s success.”

Justin Trudeau is the son of former Canadian Prime Minister, Pierre Trudeau, whose work changed the name of the July 1 holiday from “Dominion Day” to “Canada Day.” The charismatic young politician has received a lot of global attention for his “youth, celebrity appeal, and progressive politics,” but attention on the international scale is nothing new for Justin. Time magazine reports that when he was a baby, then-President Richard Nixon predicted a big future for him, and proposed a toast to the infant Trudeau as the “future Prime Minister of Canada.”

In 2016, the Canadian political star will have what many would consider an even bigger thing to brag about than Nixon’s prediction. Marvel Comics has decided to make Justin Trudeau a super-hero, and he’ll have his own comic book cover coming up this summer. Trudeau, who sports an “edgy tattoo” on his left bicep, will take on the role of a boxer in the ring, and his superhero costume has an “appropriately patriotic” maple leaf theme. Trudeau is the second Canadian PM to be featured on a comic book cover.

Canada in 2016 has a much-liked leader in the other Justin, as well as the Biebs himself, social media star and astronaut Chris Hadfield, plus incredible scenery, friendly people, poutine, and stars like The Tragically Hip, Sarah McLachlan, and Celine Dion.
