?Jessica Williams?? Leaves ‘The Daily Show’ With Segment On Bernie-Bro’s Supporting Donald Trump, Just To Spite Hillary Clinton

The Daily Show correspondent Jessica Williams just aired her final segment on the late-night series on Thursday this week. Williams, who was only 22-years-old when she first joined The Daily Show in 2012, was a fan favorite to replace former-host Jon Stewart, but that gig ultimately went to comedian Trevor Noah. While Jessica may be leaving the show, she won’t be leaving the network, as she is currently developing her own scripted comedy series for Comedy Central, according to Variety.

Which is actually a pretty great thing, and a pretty exciting development considering that Jessica Williams will be the only Black woman on Comedy Central with her own scripted comedy series.

Williams’ final report for the show focused on a small group of Bernie Sanders supporters, six in total, who are now backing Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, and refusing to support Hillary Clinton. Jessica Williams sat down to interview them all at once, grilling them on why they could go from supporting somebody like Sanders, an independent socialist running as a Democrat, to supporting the racist, sexist, homophobic, Islamophobic, jingoistic real-estate mogul and potential rapist Donald Trump.

“After an impassioned Democratic primary between the Curb Your Enthusiasm guy and the Mother of Dragons, the voting is finally over,” Williams said. “With Hillary Clinton as their nominee, the Democratic Party has united without controversy. J.K., y’all. I’m f***ing with you!”

While some admitted that Trump is a racist and a bigot, they followed up those statements by basically saying Hillary Clinton is perhaps 1,000 times worse. One of the Bernie supporters even referred to Clinton as a “stack of garbage.” Because Donald Trump isn’t also a stack of garbage, apparently.

“I don’t get it,” Jessica Williams replied. “How do you go from a left-wing progressive like Bernie to a man who worships money only slightly less than he worships himself?”

They just hate Hillary Clinton that much, and they’re that upset their revolutionary savior Bernie Sanders didn’t get the nomination.

Nobody was able to cite specific points and political policies or ideals that Trump and Sanders have in common. The best comparison one of them could come up with was the fact that Bernie and Donald are both bold and they both want to be president. Even while Jessica read the quotes, asking them to determine if Bernie Sanders said it or Donald Trump said it, she was still able to present these two men as completely different.

At the end of the segment, Noah had a bittersweet moment with Jessica, telling her, “You are the coolest, most awesome person. This building is going to suffer a severe lack of J. Willy-ness without you.”

Williams had apparently been thinking about walking away from The Daily Show a few months ago. Jessica recently did an interview with Entertainment Weekly, where she went into a little more detail about her departure from the light-night series and other projects she has coming up in the future.

Williams described her idea for the scripted comedy being “about a young woman who is a feminist and who imagines herself to be ‘woke.‘” And this sounds like the perfect kind of show that needs to be on television right now.

Jessica went on to talk about how she feels as a Black woman in her 20s, who identifies as a feminist and being “woke.” Some of us may often be made to feel that we’re supposed to be perfect, or carry ourselves in a particular way and not break from that ideal. But Jessica hopes to explore this mindset and reveal a character who doesn’t really have everything together and is still making mistakes. In many ways, it seems, the character is a lot like herself.
