Katie Holmes Gives First Interview Since Divorce

Katie Holmes has given her first interview since her high-profile divorce from Tom Cruise.

Holmes, perhaps understandably, wasn’t an entirely open book when speaking to Woman’s Wear Daily – most of the interview focuses on her forthcoming Fashion Week debut, and personal questions were batted back in most cases – but there were still answers that suggested the 33-year-old is coping well with her ordeal.

Speaking about how she deals with the constant press intrusions, the actress said, “I have a lot of feelings about the press,” before adding of her troubles, “There are a lot of people with much bigger problems and who are less fortunate. I try to keep it all in perspective.”

Holmes also told WWD she tries to do something every day “without being afraid to fail” because “who cares? At least you tried. It’s usually the people who haven’t tried who are the naysayers.”

Chins up all round, by the sounds of it.

Holmes will be making her Fashion Week debut on Wednesday, September 12, when she and stylist Jeanne Yang will launch their new Spring/Summer collection under their collaborative label Holmes & Yang. Expect as many cameras to be pointed at Ms Holmes as the clothes themselves.

In other Katie Holmes news, the actress has just been named the first A-list celebrity face of cosmetics company Bobbi Brown, signing a contract reportedly worth up to $3m (which, if previous reports are to be believed, is equivalent to be being married to Tom Cruise for one year).

    I wish her the best of luck. I admire her courage to walk away from her marriage and I'm impressed by with the way she left and how she has handled herself since the breakup. She is one class act….brilliant, Ms. Holmes.

    There is no class act in what she did just to quit her marriage just to get away from nosy press and pprAzi. Still the same now she's divorced coz. Only stupid people think she's being controlled.

    He could be gay, Seriously; he might have a bigger closet full of dresses then she does..

    It takes allot for a nice girl like Katie to divorce you… I wonder what he did!

    I'm glad for her. I'm glad when anybody does well. On the other hand, I'd rather not have known anything about her private life..and I see no reason for the intense interest that the public has for information about the private lives of celebrities. Most are ill behaved, spoiled unattractive personalities. She knew what she was getting into with Cruise. He'd failed with two incredible women before. He was chin deep in a questionable religious? cultish? philosophy that might work, but, bears no similarity to a religion. It was written by a sci fi pulp writer. Please. Look into the state of the world and try to measure the REAL importance of a semi talented, somewhat attractive, young, constantly smirking and VERY rich young woman's life with the REAL world that YOU are confronted with every day. Wasting your precious time on Katie Holmes, Lindsay Lohan, or the Kardashians is never going to make your road through this world any better. It's just going to divert your attention from the REAL issues that life throws at you.

    Give me a break. She willingly entered into a marriage with TC and she will haul millions of $ out. This marriage was orchastrated in financial terms by her father: how long to stay, when to a have a child by TC, when to get out, and all the other motivation. When she walks away with none of his money, maybe then I'll believe what comes out of her mouth.

    Actually she requested to not have any of his money, no alimony. Only child support for Suri. I think she did that in exchange for the ability to be able to decide Suri's education and religion so TC couldn't make her into a Scientologist.

    I too am impressed by how Katie has handled herself throughout all of this. I look up to women like her and Wilma Jones, author of "Living Happier After: 20 Women Talk About Life After Divorce," who also taught me that there are ranges of happiness and that just improving your current situation is a step in the right direction. I look at these women and realize that there can be happiness and success after divorce.
