Elvis Presley Overdose Death May Have Been Intentional, According To Stepbrother

The stepbrother of Elvis Presley has written a new book, where he claims the King of Rock and Roll was suicidal and that the drug overdose that took his life might have been intentional. The revelation, in a book titled My Brother Elvis, is a bit of a shock since it has long been assumed Presley died because he was a drug addict who accidentally overdosed. That is, the people who believe Presley died at all think he did so because of a drug overdose. There are still plenty of people who believe Elvis is still alive and relatively well, with those spotting him all over the world and always sending his picture into one tabloid or another.

Official reports indicate Presley died at his home on August 16, 1977. Author David E. Stanley is making the new allegations of suicide in the book, as well as other personal stories the two brothers shared throughout Presley’s short life.

Talking about why he wrote the book at all, Stanley told AOL News he felt it was his responsibility to “write a book about these realities of Elvis beyond the glitz, glamor, and fun. He was human, and his very human frailties and vulnerabilities cost him his life. If addiction could happen to Elvis, it can happen to anyone.”

If the book is to be believed, it would put to rest some rather rampant rumors surrounding how Presley passed away. One toxicology report issued shortly after Presley’s death showed he had more than 14 different drugs in his system. Not long after word of the report got out, the family began working feverishly to make sure the exact cause of death was covered up. Those who were working towards the cover up claimed they were attempting to preserve the legacy of Elvis Presley.

The cause of death for Presley was clouded even more when official reports indicated no drugs were found at Graceland, the rather famous residence of Elvis. Stanley’s book takes aim at these reports, claiming there were syringes, bags, and bottles littered around the body of Presley right after his death. In My Brother Elvis: The Final Years, Stanley claims he was one of the first to find Presley’s body, and he started hiding the evidence of the drug overdose suicide before the police arrived.

Stanley also describes a very dark period for Presley in the days leading up to his taking his life. At one point, Presley was on so many prescription drugs that a member of the singer’s retinue had to stand guard and make sure nothing happened to Presley. Things like getting Elvis to the bathroom was a way of life. Stanley also says, according to the New York Daily News, that family members would have to make sure there was no food in Presley’s mouth while he dozed off at the dinner table.

Stanley was the stepbrother of Elvis, thanks to his mother marrying Presley’s widowed father, Vernon, in 1960. Presley and Stanley were 20 years apart and were never really close, though Stanley did later work for Presley and was paid by his father, Vernon.

In the days leading up to Elvis Presley’s death, Stanley says Presley was higher than ever, and the two spoke just a few days before his death. During that final conversation, Stanley claims the King of Rock and Roll told him he was going away for a few days. It’s a safe assumption the author will lay out just why he believes the singer took his life in the book when My Brother Elvis is officially released on August 16, which is also the 39th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death.
