Eddie Redmayne And Wife Hannah Bagshawe Announce Daughter’s Birth In Posh, British Way

Eddie Redmayne’s professional life has been blissful ever since his highly acclaimed role in The Theory of Everything gave him multiple awards and opportunities. On June 15, Redmayne’s wife, Hannah Bagshawe, gave birth to the couple’s first child, according to People, and the couple announced it in a classy, British way.

While many celebrities enjoy making announcements through their social media accounts, Redmayne and Bagshawe went to an old-fashioned route of making their big announcement. The couple placed an advertisement in the U.K. newspaper The Times to make their baby announcement.

Bagshawe gave birth to the couple’s first daughter on Wednesday, June 15, and they named her Iris Mary. The Times printed the baby announcement on Saturday, June 18, as social media and other media outlets picked up the news.

The baby announcement was kept pretty simple, and the print announcement stated the baby’s gender, birth date, and full name.

This isn’t the first time that Eddie Redmayne used The Times to make an announcement. When The Danish Girl actor and Bagshawe, a financial public relations executive, got engaged, they placed an announcement in the London newspaper, which affluent British couples tend to do as it’s considered a tradition among London’s posh society.

The couple will have plenty of time to bond with their new daughter, since Redmayne doesn’t have to do promotional work for his next film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, until later this year. The highly anticipated fantasy film, which is a prequel to the Harry Potter film series, is scheduled to open in theaters on November 18.

The film is based on J.K. Rowling’s book of the same name; Rowling also wrote the screenplay and is one of the film’s producers. Redmayne’s character is Newt Scamander, an odd, introverted wizard who’s an employee at the British Ministry of Magic.

Eddie Redmayne’s career and life has been filled with many accomplishments. While he had roles in movies like Savage Grace, The Other Boleyn Girl, My Week with Marilyn, and the 2012 musical, Les Miserables, the movie that made him a household name was the 2014 film, The Theory of Everything, where he played Stephen Hawking.

His silver screen portrayal of Hawking earned him multiple award nominations and wins, including an Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild awards for Best Actor. Redmayne earned another Academy Award nomination for Best Actor this year for his role as trans woman artist Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl.

Unfortunately, the award-winning actor had one film that failed to win fans or critics last year, the widely panned Jupiter Ascending, directed by the Wachowski sisters. Redmayne even won the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Supporting Actor around the same time he received the Oscar nomination for The Danish Girl.

Eddie Redmayne and his wife Hannah Bagshawe have known each other since their teen years. It wasn’t until the Eton-educated graduate filmed Les Miserables that the couple’s friendship bloomed into a serious romance. The couple married in December 2014, just several weeks before Redmayne won the Oscar for The Theory of Everything.

A year into their marriage, the couple announced that they were expecting their first child, and confirmed it to Us Weekly. Redmayne and Bagshawe had decided to wait until the birth to find out their baby’s gender, and the British actor couldn’t contain his excitement of being a first-time dad.

We just bought our first baby book. So there’s the first step. We’re waiting to find out [the sex]. We want to be surprised. It will be a big surprise either way! I figure part of it I’ll get from the book and part will be just instinct.”
