‘Teen Wolf’ Star Tyler Hoechlin Cast As Superman In ‘Supergirl’ Series

Teen Wolf’s Tyler Hoechlin has just been cast as Superman in the second season of Supergirl. According to E!, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg let the cat out of the bag in a recent statement to the outlet.

Of Tyler’s addition to the Supergirl cast, the executive producer said the following.

“Greg and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”

The news hit that Superman would play a role in Supergirl came a few days before it was announced that Hoechlin would take on the role. It isn’t a huge surprise, seeing as how Supergirl is Superman’s cousin.

Fans of the show got a glimpse of Superman on the show when he was featured in a scene that had him “backlit,” so viewers never saw his face. It looks like viewers will no longer have to worry about not seeing Superman’s face on Supergirl from now on.

When the news was announced that Superman would be included in the series, Kreisberg said the following.

“Greg, Ali and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl. Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”

As for Tyler Hoechlin taking on the role, some fans may not be too shocked that he has a new role ready. As the Inquisitr reported, Hoechlin will not be returning to Teen Wolf in a full capacity next season.

At the time, Executive producer Jeff Davis told Buzzfeed that Tyler wanted to pursue other projects outside of the TV series.

“Tyler Hoechlin decided he wanted more time to pursue movies. We talked and creatively agreed that maybe this was a good season to refocus on the teens of ‘Teen Wolf,’ and while he won’t be a series regular anymore, I can say that you probably won’t have seen the last of Derek Hale.”

As for Hoechlin’s new project with Supergirl, the show is going through its own set of changes. As we know the show was on CBS during its first season, but was canceled by the network, only to be picked up by the CW, a network, which seems like a perfect match for the show, given its history in creating a body of work based on comic book characters. Their roster currently includes Arrow, The Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

That said, it does pose a problem, because now the production will have to move to Canada, which means that cast member Calista Flockhart, who plays Cat Grant, may not be featured on the show as frequently.

Michael Ausiello from TVLine reported the following when the news hit of the change of location.

“You may lose her for an episode or two (or three … since there’s no way Calista Flockart will be moving to Canada full-time), but I highly doubt you’ll lose her completely. CW prez Mark Pedowitz confirmed that Flockhart ‘wants to continue with the show.’ Now all sides just need to figure out the scheduling.”

It’s said that for Season 2, Supergirl will be in the same time slot as it was last year. It’s also said that because Supergirl is now a part of the CW family, that there will be many opportunities for a four way crossover event. When Supergirl was on CBS, The Flash’s Grant Gustin made a guest appearance, but there’s more to come and a “big event” that will probably go down once Supergirl gets going over at CW.

Many seem to be pleased that Hoechlin’s version of Superman will be hitting the small screen.
