WWE Rumors: WWE Will Feature Two Monthly WWE Network Specials For Both Raw & SmackDown After Brand Split

WWE is currently working on the brand extension which will be a dramatic change in WWE programming because it will be splitting the WWE roster in half. Other than some basic details, very little is actually known for sure about the upcoming brand split in WWE. However, there has been an onslaught of rumors surrounding the entire situation.

For example, there was a recent rumor that Vince McMahon has given Triple H the green light to bring NXT talents to the main roster and NXT is going to be “raided” to fill the gaps in both rosters and create some new talent and matchups for both shows after the brand split. There have also been rumors about WWE possibly making SmackDown a three-hour show.

The latest rumor to come out of WWE about the brand split is the powers that be is WWE will be featuring a WWE Network special for both Raw and SmackDown every month. WWE will have a PPV for both Raw and SmackDown every month with only a few exceptions. The two brands will combine their rosters for Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam, and Survivor Series. Those are known as WWE’s “big four” PPV events of the year.

According to RingSideNews, Jerry “The King” Lawler let this information slip out during an appearance at the 38th annual “Superman Celebration” in Metropolis, Illinois. The WWE Hall of Famer reportedly told the fans in attendance this news, and it isn’t the first time “The King” has let precious WWE news like this slip out early.

In the past, Lawler revealed the news that SmackDown would be moving to Thursdays early. It was confirmed shortly after Lawler started the rumor. At the moment, this is just a rumor. However, Lawler has been right in the past, and this is a plausible way for WWE to establish both brands and give them each their own time. If this is the plan, WWE has a lot more work to do in the brand split that is now just barely over a month away.

For starters, this structure would mean that WWE will have 20 PPV events in a calendar year. That is only for Raw and SmackDown PPVS, but WWE is also going to add WWE Network specials and anything else unique for the WWE Network. That is a lot of content, especially if WWE is going to keep NXT Takeover events and have a series like the “Cruiserweight Classic” throughout the year. That’s a lot to ask of a WWE fan and even more to ask of a casual fan, who watches WWE for fun.

The silver lining in this entire situation is that it will showcase a lot more talent and give them a monthly platform to establish the brand as it’s own little world within WWE. At the core of WWE’s brand split will become Shane vs. Stephanie McMahon to compete for the better brand and put on the better shows. That will make events like Wrestlemania or Summerslam even more special because we’ll be able to see these two brands mix, especially if there are Raw vs. SmackDown matches.

There are still a million questions when it comes to the brand split. Thus far, we know that there will be McMahon at the helm of each show, the rosters will be determined over the next month, and now we know that there will be at least two WWE events for the WWE Universe to watch every month along. WWE fans will be able to watch only Raw or SmackDown, but following both is the best choice if they don’t want to get lost at the Survivor Series. WWE just needs to make the rosters fair and competitive for good television.
