Tony Awards Livestream 2016: ‘Hamilton’ Takes Over Entire Awards Show, James Corden to Deal With Unexpected Orlando Shooting Tragedy

Today is the Tony Awards show, and the extravagant event is faced with the fact that they had to continue the festivities amid the very recent Orlando shooting.

The Tony Awards 2016 will commence at the Beacon Theater in New York at 8 p.m. ET. It will be televised on CBS, but TonyAwards.com will also host a livestreaming.

Because of the tragedy, the organizers of the show will dedicate the entire night for the victims of the Orlando attack.

“Our hearts are heavy for the unimaginable tragedy that happened last night in Orlando,” the organizers said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those affected. The Tony Awards dedicate tonight’s ceremony to them.”

The organizers also made sure that they can incorporate proper tributes to those who were affected by the shooting spree. According to recent reports, there were about 50 dead and 53 injured.

“Tonight, every note I sing will be in remembrance of the lives taken in Orlando,” actress and Tony nominee Laura Benanti tweeted Sunday afternoon.

‘Hamilton’ And James Corden’s Unexpected Route

Over the weekend, James Corden’s popular sing-along stint with the stars featured the Tony Awards frontrunner, Hamilton. This specific carpool episode featured Lin-Manuel Miranda, Audra McDonald, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Jane Krakowski. The fun video showed the Broadway superstars singing to the tunes of Hamilton, Les Misérables, and other Broadway classics.

Being a comedian, James Corden is set to firing up the stage for the Tony Awards this year. Corden also won a Tony, so it is just proper that he helm the stage tonight.

James Corden’s hosting role here is massive. Speaking with Seth Meyers, Corden said that he used to be bored about big awards shows because the audience does not necessarily know who they were awarding.

In the Tony Awards, it would be a little more different because Corden knows a lot of actors in Broadway. He has a genuine interest in announcing the awards to these talented actors and actresses.

He also shared a secret plan to Meyers on what he would do during commercials. James Corden noted that even though the show starts at 8 p.m., there are so many hours that account to the show. There is the red carpet, then there is the early awards ceremony for minor recognitions.

Corden said that because of the extremely long wait, he plans to make the night a lot more exciting by doing their own personal show in between commercials.

James Corden suggested that he could probably ask the guests to do karaokes during breaks. He said that if he could get Barbra Streisand to sing, that would be perfect.

Meyers cut him off saying that could be problematic because if the show gets back on and Streisand is still singing, he thinks it would not be a good idea to cut her off.

Corden responded saying he knows that might never happen, so he is going to fall back to the option where he and his father would just do the karaoke.

However, even if this idea is fantastic, Corden is facing a challenge on how they are going to reverse everything they have planned and prepared for the Tony Awards 2016.

Everyone will be on the lookout for how James Corden will begin the show with his comments about the Orlando shooting.
