Savannah Guthrie Pregnant: ‘Today Show’ Host Will Skip Rio Olympic Games [Video]

Today Show host Savannah Guthrie is pregnant with her second child, and that is not her only big news. Due to her pregnancy and concerns about the Zika virus, Guthrie will not be attending the 2016 Rio Olympic Games this summer.

Savannah revealed her pregnancy on air during the segment “Tuesday Trending Fishbowl” or “Burning Questions,” when she was asked the question “Are you pregnant?” The news anchor quickly responded with “Well yeah, I am.” Later, Guthrie posted a very heartfelt and emotional message about her expanding family on the morning show’s website.

“It’s hard for words to contain all the excitement Mike and I have about expecting a new baby in December. When Vale was born, our happiness was complete. The thought of getting to add to our family now is beyond every hope, dream and prayer I have ever had. It is not simply double the joy — it is joy multiplied infinitely.”

Not long after a pregnant Savannah Guthrie made her announcement, she also shared another secret that will have a big impact on the Today Show family. The 44-year old will not be making the trip to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and for very good reason: the Zika virus.

The mosquito-borne virus can cause birth defects and miscarriages. Although new studies claim that the odds of contracting the Zika virus in Rio are slim, despite original concern about the virus at the Rio Games, obviously as a pregnant woman Guthrie can’t take the risk.

“The doctors say that we shouldn’t because of the Zika virus so I’ll miss it. You’re going to have to go to female beach volleyball without me, Matt. Try to carry on.”

The new bundle of joy for Savannah and her husband, Michael Feldman, will join big sister, Vale, who is 2-years-old. Little Vale had quite a reaction to finding out that she was going to have a little brother and sister. The toddler was less than thrilled to discover that she would soon have to share her parents. It is a pretty priceless and oh-so-cute moment.

Savannah Guthrie is pregnant with her second child, due in December. She shared the news with her Today Show family today, and as it turns out, not all of them were surprised. Hoda Kotb shared that she kind of suspecting something was up after a dinner she had with Guthrie, where Savannah’s wine glass was not going down at all.

Al Roker went on to inform Savannah that he and Natalie Morales had actually talked about the possibility the Guthrie was pregnant before the show that morning. Looks like despite her best efforts, her co-hosts were starting to catch on to her little secret. It is a good thing Savannah spilled the beans before someone else did.

Even though Savannah Guthrie will miss the 2016 Rio Olympic Games due to the Zika virus and of course her being pregnant, that doesn’t mean she won’t be busy. While most of her co-hosts will be in Rio, the morning anchor will be front and center for the presidential campaign, covering all the latest news surrounding the 2016 election. The run for the White House will be getting even more heated about that time, too, so there will be no down time for the expectant mother.

It was a big day for the Today Show staff as Savannah Guthrie revealed she is pregnant with her second child. Congrats goes out to Savannah, Michael, and little Vale on the news that their family is expanding.
