Tony Romo Throwing Ball Well For Dallas Cowboys

Tony Romo has been throwing the ball well in Dallas Cowboys OTAs. That is important to the Cowboys, and their fans, based on what Romo endured in the 2015 NFL season.

Having fractured his collarbone twice last season, Tony is looking to bounce back strong in 2016. All indications are that Romo is right on track to lead the Cowboys under center this season. A person who is most qualified to comment on Romo’s performance this spring, Cowboys’ tight-end and frequent pass recipient, Jason Witten, recently expressed enthusiasm regarding how well Tony has been throwing the ball, as quoted by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

“He does look really good. His tempo, the energy he is bringing, everything he is doing at the line of scrimmage, he looks really well. That excites us to see him back healthy, even better than what he was before. I know he’s worked really hard to get to that point.”

Romo has been making small adjustments to his mechanics, as is normal for him at this time of year. Some of the improvements he and his teammates have recently seen are the result of work done over the past two years. Although there is excitement from Tony regarding the advances, it is tempered with waiting to see what will happen during the season for the Cowboys. Romo recently expressed this to the Dallas Morning News.

“I’ve got a long way to go, but it’s a good start. That’s all it is right now. A good start. If I can continue to build off that and certain techniques that I won’t bore you with, I think they’re going to be able to hold up. I feel very excited about what that could possibly entail moving forward.”

It isn’t just current Cowboys who think that Romo is throwing the ball well. Former Dallas VP of player personnel, Gil Brandt, who is now a senior analyst for NFL.com, also commented on his observations regarding Tony’s recent performance on the field.

So far, Romo’s throwing does not appear to be hampered by the surgery he underwent on his left collarbone earlier this offseason. According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the surgery Tony went through is called a “Mumford” procedure. It involves shaving off part of the clavicle to potentially reduce future injuries.

During the 2015 season for the Cowboys, Tony appeared in four games. He started the year off right for Dallas, leading the team to an opening weekend victory over the New York Giants, 27-26. In that game, according to Pro-Football-Reference, Romo threw for 356 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.

The second game of the season, against the Philadelphia Eagles, is when Romo suffered his first collarbone injury of 2015. Brandon Weeden took over the quarterback duties for Tony initially. Later in the season, Dallas traded for Matt Cassel who assumed starter responsibility.

Coming back for the 10th game of the 2015 season, Romo once again led Dallas to victory, this time against the Miami Dolphins, by a score of 24-14. In that contest, Tony threw for 227 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Against the Carolina Panthers on Thanksgiving, Tony suffered his second collarbone injury of 2015. Matt Cassel took over quarterback duties in that game.

Cassel was the starter in the next few games for the Cowboys. Kellen Moore, who is the likely backup to Tony Romo this season, as previously reported by the Inquisitr, was then given a chance to play and start the last two games of the season under center for Dallas.

With Romo now recovered from both his injuries and the associated surgery, and throwing the ball well in organized team activities, the Cowboys and their fans are hoping for a big improvement upon their 4-12 record in 2015.
