‘Arrow’ Star Stephen Amell Reveals How ‘The Flash’ Cliffhanger Could Affect Oliver Queen In Season 5

Season 2 of The Flash is officially over, but the insane cliffhanger it left fans with has the possibility to overturn nearly everything that has happened in the CW’s DC Universe since Arrow first aired back in 2012.

But how will it change the future of The Flash, and what about Arrow? Will Barry’s choices seep into other CW superhero shows?

In the season finale, fans saw Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) head back to the past and stop his mother, Nora, from dying. Now, fans can be certain that ripple effects will be played out in the next season of The Flash, especially given the fact that almost immediately Barry saw one of the other time-traveling Barry’s fade out of existence.

But, according to Comic Book, who asked Arrow star Stephen Amell about said events, the ripple effects may not reach CW’s Arrow.

“I don’t know,” Amell said. “I do know that we’ve done a lot of work on Arrow to introduce the other shows, for lack of a better term, and now that that’s all done, we’re focused on doing the things that we do well for Season 5.”

Amell was then asked if that meant bringing things “back to the basics,” to which Amell replied, “Yes, that’s exactly right. Arrow is at its best when we’re dealing with problems in Star City. We’re not a time-travel show, we’re not a multi-Earth show, though obviously [we do that] with crossovers and stuff like that. We’re Arrow, we deal with Star City, and I feel like we’ll be better off focusing on that.”

Cinema Blend also points out that for fans who have enjoyed watching Oliver Queen go from stranded rich kid to the Green Arrow over Barry’s adventures, it may not be fair to change the direction of Arrow to accommodate for another show’s choices, even if the shows share the same universe.

Of course, it isn’t like Arrow hasn’t spent some it’s air time dedicated to preparing characters for future spinoffs. The Flash was born from Arrow, and Arrow also spent two seasons doing all the heavy lifting for Legends of Tomorrow.

Because of this, for those who are ready for the show to return to the more original style, Amell’s words are those of encouragement.

However, Amell previously said that a Supergirl/Arrow crossover wouldn’t be out of the question. Also, CW executive Mark Pedowitz said that the annual crossover event scheduled for December was going to be bigger than ever and will include all four DC shows.

Meanwhile, ScreenCrush reports that with The Flash’s time-hopping finale a day before the fourth season finale of Arrow, some fans were anticipating an epic Arrow finale caused by Barry’s mother saving choices. But the lack of or non-existence of Barry’s time traveling effects on Arrow is further proof that the show won’t be going down the same “Flashpoint” sequence as Barry.

In Arrow’s finale, all of Team Arrow went their separate ways while Oliver rose to the office of Star City’s mayor. But never in the finale was Barry mentioned, which seems to be the general direction Arrow Season 5 is headed for.

Nevertheless, Barry’s epic “Flashpoint” drama could be what was necessary to set up the much-anticipated four-show crossover event. Perhaps Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and The Flash teaming up is the only thing that can address the epic situation.

As for Season 5 of Arrow, it appears that it won’t get sucked into the world of Barry Allen. Instead, it and Oliver Queen will stay in Star City, where it feels most at home.

To find out exactly what happens with Team Arrow and Star City, be sure to watch Season 5 of Arrow when it kicks off next fall.
