Samsung’s New Galaxy Note 6 May Now Be The Galaxy Note 7

Forget about the Samsung Galaxy Note 6; Samsung could be skipping a number and going straight for the 7. The Verge has the news.

“The next major Android phablet release from Samsung will be called the Galaxy Note 7 and will feature a dual-edge display, according to Korean carrier sources speaking anonymously to ET News.”

The article adds that Samsung is doing this to try and override the confusion with its devices. Instead of having the Galaxy Note 6 and S7 Edge, it’s easier to just call it the Galaxy Note 7, which will have the same curvature on both the front and back of the device. They say it may enter production as early as July, which leads to the possibility that the Note 7 could be released in August.

According to Pocket-lint, there may be only a small change to the new Galaxy Note display.

“Rumours suggest the Note 6 [they aren’t calling it a ‘7’ yet] will continue the Super AMOLED trend but it looks like the display size could increase very slightly to 5.8-inches. The resolution is said to be sticking to Quad HD which if all true, would mean a slightly lower pixel density of 506ppi. This however, will not be noticeable to the human eye so you can still expect a great display experience from the Note 6.”

They also summarize the various reports about the new Galaxy Note camera.

“According to a Weibo report, the Note 6 will be coming with a 12-megapixel main camera offering ‘Super OIS Plus,’ while another Weibo user suggested it would feature infrared-based autofocus. The front-facing camera sensor wasn’t detailed on either report.”

Pocket-lint reminds its readers that the decrease in megapixels doesn’t mean much since both the S7 and S7 Edge both have 12MP cameras that have earned excellent reviews. It’s likely that the Note 7 will take 4K videos as well.

According to Know Your Mobile, the new Galaxy Note will be hardware monster.

“This year WILL see the release of the Galaxy Note 6 [7] globally, and the handset is sounding like an absolute MONSTER, with 6GB of RAM, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU, new imaging technology and tons of new software features,” says columnist Paul Briden, who adds that Samsung’s new phablet may arrive the week of August 15.

If these specifications are accurate, the new Galaxy Note sounds like it might be almost as powerful as a laptop computer.

Apple iPhone 6s Plus

Samsung will have a lot of competition from the iPhone 7 Plus (or “iPhone Pro” as Apple may call it) this fall. According to most sources, the 7 Plus won’t be a huge upgrade from the 6s Plus, but enough of one that may still make people want to upgrade. A photo of the iPhone 7 Plus has made its waves and has even appeared on Mac Rumors. The site talked about the iPhone 7 Plus’ camera

“The most notable change is the inclusion of a much-rumored dual-lens camera with a protruding, pill-shaped enclosure, as opposed to two separate circular camera openings depicted in some online renderings,” reported Joe Rossignol.

Excitement for both of these products has been ramping up on Twitter.
