Bill Maher And Bernie Sanders Discuss Donald Trump Chickening Out [Video]

Independent Vermont Senator and Democratic Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders sat down with Bill Maher on Friday night. As you can expect, the interview (more like a meeting of the minds discussion) between Sanders and Maher was one for the ages. During the Real Time with Bill Maher interview, Bernie Sanders and Bill spent a lot of time talking (down) about Donald Trump. They also spent a bit of time talking about the uphill battle Hillary Clinton will face when she tries to best Trump in the general election, reports the Huffington Post.

Check out the Bernie Sanders/Bill Maher interview below.

The gist of the interview is that Bernie Sanders is “desperate” to debate Trump, and he told Bill Maher that he would have loved to talk policy with the real estate billionaire-turned presumptive GOP presidential nominee.

Bernie was left wanting and disappointed, though, when Trump repeatedly changed his mind about engaging Senator Sanders in a debate. Ultimately, Donald Trump decided that it wasn’t in his best interest to debate Bernie, and #ChickenTrump was born.

Bill Maher had some words of his own for Donald Trump and his refusal to debate Sanders, a move that some are calling cowardly but even more are calling “chicken.”

“Mr. Macho chickened out.”

Maher’s words, extremely critical of Trump – Bill Maher has never claimed to be a Donald Trump fan, and has made his feelings abundantly clear this election cycle – prompted Bernie Sanders to once again call out the former reality TV star, doubling down on his desire to debate The Donald for the world to see before the upcoming party conventions.

“Trump claims to be a real tough guy, pushes people around. Hey Donald, come on up, let’s have a debate about the future of America.”

Before Bill Maher sat down to interview Bernie Sanders, he had some tough words for Donald Trump in his opening monologue.

Maher’s interview with Bernie Sanders hit on multiple issues, including Hillary Clinton struggling in the polls in a general election match-up with Trump and the misguided perception of some people that Bernie is a “hardcore socialist.”

As much as the pair tried to vary the subject matter in the interview, though, Maher and Sanders inevitably kept returning to a discussion about The Donald.

According to Bernie Sanders, it’s hard to strategize against Trump because of his “lies” an his obvious lack of accountability. Sanders didn’t take Trump’s character flaws out on the entire Republican party, though. Sanders made it clear that it’s possible to disagree with people’s political views and still be friends with them, so long as they’re not crazy.

“I have a lot of Republican colleagues and friends who I disagree with. They’re not crazy. They’re honest people.”

Bernie also told Bill Maher that Trump is a “pathological liar,” saying that he wasn’t being mean, just honest, and that he worries about the future of America and even the world itself if Trump is successful in his presidential campaign.

“I don’t mean to be malicious, but it’s just the damn truth. He would not only be an embarrassment, but a real danger to this entire world if he were to become president.”

While a lot of Hillary Clinton supporters have (not so politely) encouraged Bernie Sanders to drop out of the 2016 election so that Democrats can unite behind Hillary, Sanders has vowed to fight it out to the bitter end. During his Bill Maher interview, he addressed a big part of the “why.” Sanders told Maher that he is concerned about Hillary’s chances of beating Donald Trump in a general election and addressed an array of polls that show him faring better against the former reality TV star.

Sanders encouraged Democrats who don’t want to see a President Trump to send their votes his way.

As RT reports, Bernie Sanders is correct. Recent polls show Donald Trump beating Hillary Clinton by at least two points in a hypothetical general election contest.

Unfortunately for Senator Sanders, it may be too late for him to secure the Democratic nomination. Hillary Clinton needs less than 100 delegates to clinch the nomination, and she should easily pick up that many in the California primary on June 7.
