‘Guild Wars 2′ Overcomes Launch Day Bugs To Reveal A Great Game

Despite A Buggy First Day Guild Wars 2 Is A Great Game

Guild Wars 2 had a bumpy ride during the first 24 hours of launch, but, thanks to the diligent efforts of the ArenaNet team, most of the serious issues have been resolved. Now that players are no longer having trouble connecting to the game, the servers are packed with excited gamers who have discovered that Guild Wars 2 was well worth the five year wait.

There are still a few minor issues with guild rosters and the auction house, but ArenaNet assures us they are working around the clock to get them resolved. Considering the success they had at getting the major issues under control, it looks like we are headed for a smooth official launch Tuesday, August 28.

Judging by the number of players on the servers for early access, it appears that Guild Wars 2 has attracted the full attention of the gaming public. The game has been live since 9 pm PST, Friday, and even the starter area is still full of players. People have been exceptionally friendly, and there have been plenty of folks to help take down the elite mobs and mini bosses in the quest zones.

I am playing an Elementalist, which is a nuking caster class. Lots of spells, lots of damage, and my character even has a heal, which is always nice on a squishy toon. What makes Elementalist especially interesting is the way you can switch between fire, air, water, and earth spells on the fly to tailor your attacks for every type of monster in the game.

So far, the game is quite well balanced. Mobs are not easy mode, but they are not going to make you want to rip your hair out either. From my own experience, once mobs are more than 2 levels above the player, that’s when you need to be careful and make sure not to pull a bunch of monsters all at once.

The lower level gear is adequate for the job at hand, but I wouldn’t waste my time worrying about gear while you level. That may change as players reach higher levels, but I am too far from the cap of level 80 to worry about end game gear.

Now that the game is functioning properly, I am having a really excellent time. Guild Wars 2 has kept me so immersed and interested that someone had to remind me that I hadn’t eaten lunch or dinner. I just keep plugging along, killing monsters, finishing quest chains, and advancing my character. I may just not bother to sleep tonight, so I can keep enjoying this great new game. At this point, I’d have to say, Guild Wars 2 is a major success.

I will be back later with more on the launch of Guild Wars 2. Be sure to check in often with The Inquisitr for regular updates on the biggest new MMO of 2012. Meanwhile, its back to Guild Wars 2. I’ m almost done with the first quest zone, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

  1. Quests are so bad, story and lore sucks. Pretty disappointed. Race design is boring, I wanted to make an old wizard like character, couldn't get anything like I pictured. The launch has been terra-bad so far. Good blizzard impression arena net.

yeah i really have to say byron you sound like a wow fanboy. star wars was so wowy it was pretty much a mimic of it with lightsabers and i remember you loving it. sooooooo. plus in all honesty the game isnt even out yet. this was the first three days extra for the people who pre-ordered… SCHOOLED YOU SON!

  5. I did actually post this just to get a response but I do actually have some valid and opinionated points about the game. Kyle has been playing he brings up some concerns when it comes to questing, I was a little disappointed with the character customization, mainly because it sounded cool, and although I can make some cool characters I couldn't make what I wanted. As for swtor, don't want to really make it a gw2 vs swtor, one of the huge reasons I play a game is lore story, swtor has an amazing leveling experience I love that it is science fiction fantasy and I am also a huge star wars fan. Class quests are fantastic. I think it has some fantastic WZ design they are coming out fast the new one looks great, too slow on content releases but all linier MMOs can suffer that, I do however enjoy the linier format I am yet to enjoy a horizontal progression MMO but guild wars may be the first opportunity for me to play one.

I am would like to understand the lore in guild wars but I hated the first game. So that is an opportunity there, the cities and such look great but some of the more localized design is a bit dull flat plane/trees, swtor has all these little hidden paths windy roads canyons and of course city size planets with secret cantinas, casinos and the underworld of nar shadda and coruscant to explore the latest world event made use of these areas which was good. Guild wars may have these spaces I don't know. It would be different being in a fantasy setting.

  6. Truth be told, it's those same paths that makes gw2 special. Why? Because sometimes you have to explore your arse off and go like "wait, where do I have to jump next?"

In my Beta time, I found many hidden paths that gave this sense of adventure I haven't felt in ages.
