Niall Horan: Still No Assurance Of One Direction Return Amid Nominations From Teen Choice Awards

Niall Horan assured fans that the band that he is so much a part of, One Direction, will be back from its long hiatus soon. That was on December 14, 2015, according to a Billboard story. Now, it’s already May 25, 2016. Instead, we have Niall Horan posting on social media that he is undergoing a lot of stress lately from simultaneously being trolled and bullied, according to a separate Inquisitr article. Anyway, it seems that One Direction fans are willing to wait, as nobody has been complaining lately.

Under this existing dispensation, One Direction seems to be going on auto-pilot, still earning nods from award-giving organizations while waiting for the Princes of Pop to wake up from what appears to be a very deep slumber. The latest recognition for 1D came from the 2016 Teen Choice Awards. While the awards won’t be doled out until sometime in August, nominations are always out early, allowing nominees to prepare for the big event.

A separate Billboard story explains the rationale behind the music awards as follows.

“Like all award shows with ‘choice’ in the name, the 2015 Teen Choice Awards were for the fans as selected by the fans.”

And that rationale is no different for this year’s Teen Choice Awards. The nominations include Choice Male Artist for Zayn Malik, a former member of One Direction; Choice Music Group—Choice Song—Male Artist for Zayn Malik single “Pillowtalk”; and Choice Song—Group for “Home” by One Direction.

Based on these nominations, Zayn Malik, who left One Direction on March 25, 2015, is still very much favored by fans. And, while “Pillowtalk” is Malik’s breakaway single, there is no doubt that he still receives some halo effect from the band. In other words, the 1D force is still strong with the young Malik, but at the same time, the Teen Choice nominations are a strong indicator that he has done well on his own.

It will be interesting to see come awards night how all the mechanics will come into play. However, judging from the recently concluded 2016 Billboard Music Awards, where 1D was a no-show, the prospects for One Direction sightings anytime soon don’t look very bright at all.

Here’s Bustle’s take on the matter.

“It would have been nice to see them [One Direction] show up at the award show. The band was up tonight for Top Duo/Group, as well as Top Touring Artist. In case you forgot, they won last year for the same categories. All while looking ridiculously dapper, might I add.”

Still, One Direction hope springs eternal, as Bustle says the following.

“With their current hiatus and still-fresh breakup rumors, it feels like the group is on shaky ground for future records. But don’t worry too much — a source close to the band has said that nothing has changed regarding hiatus plans for the group, and all will be revealed in due time from the band members’ own mouths, according to Billboard.”

Now don’t quote the Inquisitr on that. We haven’t found any clear indicator about the Billboard claim or if it is even a Billboard claim. The last thing we want to happen is to keep the fans’ hope high, only to deflate it like a big balloon later.

What is certain is that it all goes back to Niall Horan who, according to Billboard, said the following in August last year.

“Ok so Lots of rumors going around. We are not splitting up, but we will be taking a well-earned break at some point next year.”

In fact, all that the producer of many of One Direction’s hits, Julian Bunetta, will say is that the fifth and the latest 1D album “was recorded with the four members knowing it would be their last for a while.”

And that, folks, is just setting the record straight. Simply defined, a hiatus is an interruption in the continuity of work, and nothing more. We stick to the facts and refrain from any hasty conclusions.
