Meghan Trainor Falls During ‘Tonight Show’ Performance, Doesn’t Let It Ruin Her Groove [Video]

Like Humpty Dumpty, Meghan Trainor took a great fall last week. During Thursday night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Trainor’s performance was flawless. She didn’t have a single hitch or hiccup as she performed her new single, “Me Too.” She even looked fabulous. From a sparkly, curve-hugging frock to some five-inch heels, Meghan Trainor looked every bit the diva star she is.

Unfortunately, her fashion came at a pretty humiliating price.

Those five-inch-heels turned a tiny trip into an epic tumble as Meghan turned around to grab the microphone following her performance. As you can see in the video below, Trainor was unable to regain her footing or catch her balance after a heel twisted out from under her.

The pop star couldn’t fight gravity or the inevitable, and she ended up flat on her back on the Tonight Show stage, reports Fox 25. For someone with less tact or a little less self-confidence, such a devastating and (unfortunately) public tumble could have been pretty awkward. Not for Meghan Trainor, though. The Grammy-winning singer took it all in stride and made the best out of one of the worst situations a performing artist can face.

Rather than trying to collect herself and pretend nothing had happened (the whole “the show must go on” routine), Trainor decided to take advantage of her fall. She took the opportunity to chill on her back onstage for a few seconds, ultimately prompting Host Jimmy Fallon to come up on stage and lay down next to her.

The pair laughed it up for a couple of minutes, with Fallon joining in as Meghan Trainor tried to compose herself. He even added some commentary of his own.

“Oh my God. Almost. Almost, every single dance move. Grabbing the mic is the toughest.”

As Entertainment Tonight reports, the ever-gallant Fallon also gave Meghan Trainor the opportunity to spare herself the pubic embarrassment. He reportedly let Trainor have a “do-over” and gave Meghan the opportunity to edit out the nasty fall to save face. In a spate of good nature, however, Meghan Trainor decided to keep the “misstep” in the show’s final edit.

“I sat there and saw both performances…the first one just had so much energy. I said, ‘You know what, it goes with the lyrics. It’s fine. Keep the fall.”

Meghan had some words of praise for Fallon after the incident, saying that “he’s the best.” Jimmy reportedly told Trainor that she wasn’t the first to take a tumble on the Tonight Show stage. According to Meghan Trainor, Fallon told her that the previous night’s act had fallen, too. Unlike Meghan, though, they’d opted to have their fall removed from the show’s final edit.

“You’re fine. People eat it here all the time, the floor is slippery.”

After the fall was all said and done, Meghan Trainor laughed at herself on Twitter, where she also got lots of love from her fans.

The epic Tonight Show fall and gracious recovery weren’t the only reasons that Meghan Trainor was in the spotlight last week. Before her memorable Tonight Show performance of “Me Too,” Trainor was already making media waves for pulling the official video for the song off the air. Why would she take such an extreme step?

According to Trainor, she pulled the “Me Too” video when she saw how much Photoshopping had been done during the editing process. Namely, she said that editors had significantly altered her proportions, making her waist much smaller than it is in real life. The 22-year-old songstress was deeply insulted by the changes to her appearance, so she pulled the edited version of the video and replaced it with the real thing.

“”I was so embarrassed. I thought [fans] would attack me: ‘She’s Photoshopping! She can’t be doing that!’ [But] they were just rooting me on. Everyone was so kind.”

Meghan Trainor has long been known for her body-positive attitude, and she wasn’t about to take the editor’s digital insult to her natural proportions laying down.

“For me, I was like ‘Man, I wear enough Spanx. I don’t need to be cut in half. It’s just not who I am. I don’t want to promote that, even if it means take down the video and shock the world for a minute.”

Indeed, Meghan Trainor saved all of her laying down for her memorable and adorable Tonight Show performance.
