Kristen Stewart On Moving From Actress To Filmmaker

Launched to fame at 17, Kristen Stewart has been in the spotlight for sometime, pursuing fame in the Twilight franchise and switching from the blockbuster franchise to more artsy films like Woody Allen’s Cafe Society and Personal Shopper. Now, Stewart says she feels the need for a break from acting, later adding that her break may not be all fun and games. Instead, Kristen reveals ambitions that would take her behind the camera with her first experiences with directing.

Equals Star Kristen Stewart Wants A Break From Acting

Kristen says she’s been enjoying her success and the steady work that her celebrity status has generated, but the Twilight actress says she feels she needs a break from acting, particularly after having just completed five films over the past 2 years. Stewart says her break from acting won’t translate into a vacation or a sabbatical, but a new experience in furthering her career; Stewart will be directing a short film. Kristen reveals she will also be changing her hairstyle.

I’ve never changed my appearance,” Stewart said at the 69th annual Cannes Film Festival. “I’ve always really stayed neutral since I was like 10 years old, so I was like, ‘I’m going to direct a short (film), and I’m going to f— up my hair’.”

Refinery 29, a female-focused digital publisher is sponsoring the program, which will enlist 12 female directors in their ShatterBox Anthology, a series of short films that will explore the theme of power. Stewart’s film is entitled Water. Little else is known about her project at this time.

Whether she’s acting or behind the camera, Kristen says that there’s a magic in making movies that will never dull or lessen with the passage of time, because it’s something unique to the creative process.

“I feel like there’s something psychic that happens when people are drawn to each other to make something,” Stewart explained. “And I have so much faith in that that I will always follow it. And I will definitely make a few missteps and a few bad movies and things that aren’t so sure.”

Kristen Stewart Has Become A New Person And Learned To Fully Enjoy Her Personal Life

Kristen’s switch from actress to director isn’t the only change she’s experienced in her life, though the changes in her personal life have been more gradual and less noticeable, until perceived over an extended period of time. For instance, Stewart has finally come to a point in her life where she feels comfortable with her sexuality and with her decision not to explain it or label it just to give others peace of mind. Stewart also says she’s happy that today’s teens and young adults are embracing the idea that their genders and sexual orientation do not need to be labeled.

For herself, Kristen says she has come to accept that she will always be photographed with whomever she happens to be dating and she says that she’ll no longer let that affect or limit her in her life.

“I don’t want to be too guarded,” said Stewart.

Kristen says that she allowed the paparazzi to change the way she lives her life, and she now admits that it was a mistake to let them intimidate her in such a way. Kristen adds that being pushed into being so secretive has kept her from enjoying life to its fullest.

“I was so guarded. And that really doesn’t provide a fully-lived life. There are ways to interact with media and there are ways to interact with the public and, beyond that, just human beings. Because those are all very different things,” said Stewart. “So I’ve found this balance of ignoring the things I find worthless and really letting in the stuff that feels human and that is by not hiding and being honest.”
