‘Toy Story 4’ Tipped To Reveal The True Story Of Andy’s Father

Toy Story 4, the upcoming sequel to one of the most beloved animated film series of all time and the same animated film that put Pixar on the map, has recently had some interesting details revealed about it.

According to Movie News Guide, Toy Story 4 might just do the one thing the rest of the Toy Story movies have thus far failed to do: finally give fans an insight into Andy’s father.

Throughout the entire Toy Story series, viewers have only seen Andy with his sister and his mother, with no mention of his father. Toy Story 4 will reportedly focus on Andy’s back story, with John Lasseter, the director of Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, and Cars, mentioning that it’s about time that Andy got his share of the spotlight.

Fans of the Toy Story franchise have often speculated as to the real story behind Andy’s father, with one popular theory being that the reason and his cowboy doll Woody mean so much to him is because his father gave it to Andy before he left, or possibly before he died. Fans would remember that Andy’s mother gave Buzz Lightyear to Andy for his birthday towards the start of the first Toy Story movie, so it stands to reason that Woody may have been given to him by his father.

According to Lawyer Herald, Toy Story 4 will be heading in a different direction from the previous movies in the series.

John Lasseter confirmed during the D23 expo that the sequel will be showing the romantic side of Woody and Bo Peep which will also be “a very very emotional story.” Not only will Toy Story 4 focus on the romance between Woody and Bo Peep, but the budding romance between Buzz Lightyear and Jessie will also be explored and developed. This romance started back in Toy Story 2 and was somewhat escalated in Toy Story 3, but will reportedly be a major story arc in the highly-anticipated Toy Story 4.

Fans of the Disney/Pixar franchise would remember that it was revealed in Toy Story 3 that Bo Peep was no longer a part of Andy’s toy collection, and had either been given away or sold. The hinted plot of the upcoming Toy Story 4 film will focus on Woody’s search for Bo Peep, with the help of his friends.

John Lasseter spoke on the themes that will be explored in Toy Story 4.

“Each of the stories is a different genre and Toy Story 4 is a love story. It’s a love story between Woody and Bo Peep. Bo’s returned for Toy Story 4. Woody and Buzz head out to find Bo. It’s a very, very emotional story, and it’s very fun doing a story about [Woody and Bo].”

John Lasseter said that the basis behind the upcoming Toy Story 4 movie is the story of his wife and before they met, saying that his wife, Nancy, had an “incredible story” before he met her, one that has inspired him. He went on to say that Nancy’s story has been an inspiration for the storyline behind Toy Story 4. He reiterated comments that he made prior to the release of the previous Toy Story sequels.

“At Pixar and Disney, we only make sequels if we come up with a story that’s as good, or better than the original.”

New characters will be joining the film while many old favorites will return. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen return as the voice talents behind Woody and Buzz Lightyear respectively, while Jeff Garlin, Jodi Benson, Blake Clark, Anne Potts, Don Rickles, Lori Alan, Estelle Harris, and Joan Cusack will also be a part of the cast. John Lasseter will be helming the project, while Rashida James and Will Cormack will be penning the screenplay for the movie.
