Sarah Jessica Parker On Defense Of Her Met Attire And Everyone Having An Opinion

Sarah Jessica Parker, known for her impeccable sense of style and her former Sex and the City show-stopper wardrobe, is apparently one of a few who missed the mark in regards to this past weekend’s Met Gala “Manus and Machina” theme. The actress and entrepreneur drew criticism by a number of onlookers who accused Parker of negating from the expected technology-based theme for the event.

SJP is always sure to have fun with the theme for the annual extravaganza. One such example includes the 2013 ensemble that involved a Phillip Treacy Mohawk to accent her look. This time around, one specific blogger feels that Parker’s attire fell flat and was not shy to indicate this.

People shares the details of the criticism drawn from fashion blogger Ivy Marshall.

“Ivy Marshall rounded up her Met Gala best and worst dressed picks on Tuesday, ranking Parker, Diane von Furstenberg and Madonna among those who missed the mark. She captioned the post, ‘The 2016 Met Gala Theme was Manus X Machina; Fashion in the age of technology and this trio didn’t get the memo.'”

The blogger’s words did not go unheard. Sarah Jessica Parker, herself, fired back in defense of her attire, noting that she did in fact receive the memo.

“Always welcome thoughts but I’m a stickler for the theme and pay close attention to what it means. Every year with great consideration, research and conviction. The understanding of man and machine, how they intersect, when and why is what we considered. Perhaps you weren’t aware of the technology used in the details and embellishments of the design. Or perhaps you simply didn’t like what I wore which is completely fine but you can’t accuse me of not paying close attention and adhering to the theme. With respect and warmest regards, sj.”

The blogger was sure to respond to Parker’s rebuttal on Wednesday and stated that she still stands behind her opinion of SJP’s outfit for the gala.

“2016 might not have been her [Parker’s] best look and yes i still think she was out of place!!!”

Marshall then proceeded to post a ranking of Sarah Jessica Parker’s best looks from previous years, which did include some incredible designs. Additionally, on Wednesday morning, Sarah Jessica Parker made her way to the studios of NBC and ABC for various interview segments. One such interview involved a stop by The View, where Parker continued to defend her ensemble with the women.

The Sex and the City star relayed the negative feeling she was left with after the back and forth between she and Marshall over her Met gala attire. The Daily Mail relays Parker’s words during her visit.

“Well now I feel lousy. I research it. I go to exhaustive detail to understand the meaning of the theme. And the world is such now that everybody gets to have an opinion, and isn’t that wonderful? We live in a democracy and all sorts of people can say all sorts of things. And it just isn’t a great way to spend your time worrying about what people say or trying to fix it or make it feel better. It’s perfectly all right.”

Sarah Jessica Parker was sure to be a showstopper during her multiple television appearances and reminded viewers that she always gets it right. The Mail notes the effort that went into SJP’s looks for her busy morning in NYC.

“Stylist Erin Walsh put the 51-year-old actress in three outfits, including a frilly floral frock and SJP silver T-strap heels. The eight-time Golden Globe winner had her naturally long locks coiffed by Serge Normant, and she sported a smoky eye by Leslie Lopez.”
