Scotty McCreery Shares Life Lessons And More In New Book, ‘Go Big Or Go Home’

Scotty McCreery was just a teenager when he won American Idol. Before that, he was an accomplished high school athlete. Since then, McCreery has gone on to have a successful country music career. Now, at 22-years-old, he is also an author.

Scotty McCreery released his first book, a biography titled Go Big Or Go Home: The Journey Toward the Dream, on May 3. The “Feelin’ It” singer chose the title because it’s the mantra he has applied to his life since he was a young boy, as Rolling Stone Country reports.

“‘Go big or go home’ is my mantra that I lived by from an early age. And that was mainly sports, it was mainly baseball. It was like, man I’m gonna go out on that field I’m gonna give it my all, and if I gotta try and steal home and I get thrown out, at least I went big, stuff like that.”

From the baseball field to the American Idol stage and beyond, Scotty McCreery is not afraid to take risks because he knows the “easy road” will not lead him to success. McCreery goes on to explain how he applied his “go big or go home” attitude, which he said was instilled in him by his father, to his music career.

“It wasn’t until I started singing a little bit and getting on the show, where it was like, man I can kind of use that same motto for what I’m doing now. I’ve taken that and put it into my career now. You’re not going to get anywhere by just taking the easy road and not taking risks. Sometimes it’ll work out and sometimes it won’t, but at least you gave it a shot.”

Scotty revealed on the Today show that he was approached to write a book when he was only 18- or 19-years-old. At that time, McCreery felt he was just too young. Now, he has some life experience under his belt that he’s ready to share with the world.

Scotty McCreery will have to dig deep and apply his lifelong motto to his career now more than ever. In February, he was unexpectedly dropped from his record label despite having a new album in the works. As of now, McCreery is searching for the right fit for his upcoming projects.

Scotty McCreery’s last single received a lukewarm response. Despite trying to “Scottify” it, “Southern Belle” is a bit edgier than fans are used to seeing from a younger Scotty McCreery. The song and video show that the clean-cut singer with the boy-next-door image is maturing. However, McCreery told Rolling Stone last fall that the song “is probably about as far left as we’ll go.”

Following the split, Scotty McCreery told Taste of Country he was grateful for the time spent at Mercury and planned to move forward with his head held high.

“I enjoyed being on Mercury Nashville/Interscope and I appreciate all the great people who worked hard on my behalf while I was there. I am excited about what the future holds and the opportunities being presented to me.”

More recently, Scotty McCreery explained to Rolling Stone that he just wants to continue to do what he loves to do. While being dumped by his label was a surprise, Scotty understands it comes with the territory.

“I just want to sing. I love to sing, but there is the business side too. You know, it was a little bit of a surprise, but it was a business decision.”

As Scotty McCreery prepares to write the next chapter of his music career, he is also busy promoting Go Big or Go Home. The American Idol alum just launched a book signing tour. Find McCreery’s full schedule of appearances on his official website.
