What a difference a year makes. When Beyoncé showed up on May 4, 2015, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with Jay Z, Beyoncé was practically singing “Feeling Myself” with the fierce looks that Beyoncé flashed the camera, as seen in the next photo.
Back then, Beyoncé wore a sheer dress for the “China: Through The Looking Glass” Costume Institute Benefit Gala in New York City. It was a sheer dress that showed off Beyoncé’s thinner form after indulging in a vegan diet with Jay Z for approximately three weeks prior to the gala.
This year, however, Beyoncé is making news for her Lemonade album that has potentially exposed issues with her husband — and also spawned the famous advice for a man to call Becky with the good hair. Beyoncé gave that advice to a man who only wanted her when she wasn’t there.
Well, on Monday, May 2, Beyoncé showed up on the red carpet of the Met Gala without Jay Z, as reported by E!
This time, instead of wearing a see-through dress, Beyoncé wore a latex Givenchy dress that was easier for her to put on than the crystal-embellished dress that Beyoncé wore last year, reports Vogue.
Beyoncé’s bold look is getting lots of feedback on social media.
As seen in the top photo above, Beyoncé went with eye makeup that gave her a sort of Batman look around the eyes. Beyoncé’s eye shadow for the “Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology” Costume Institute Gala was a dark hue that surrounded her eyes and made them stand out.
Missing from the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 2, in New York City was Jay Z. The fact that Beyoncé’s husband wasn’t right by her side like last year is also causing buzz, with folks wondering if the events spelled out in Beyoncé’s visual album had anything to do with Jay Z not walking the red carpet with Beyoncé this year.
The scuttlebutt on Twitter about Beyoncé at the 2016 Met Gala includes talk about Beyoncé’s sister, Solange Knowles, wearing lemon yellow in honor of Beyoncé’s famous scene in her Lemonade album wherein Beyoncé strolls down the street causing destruction with a baseball bat. As noted by Facebook user Maximiliano Goiz on April 23, it was the “Intuition/Hold Up” song that featured the baseball bat.
“Y’all… This #Lemonade visual album is just too much. The Afro-Diasporic/Oshun vibes that Beyoncé is giving, especially during that ‘Intuition/Hold Up’ song are so specific and beautiful! She opens those golden doors with the water gushing out (like a river) dressed in that golden-yellow dress with golden jewelry, barefoot, with a ‘Guantanamera’ sounding sample in the background.”
Actions speak louder than words.

Others are joking that Beyoncé pulled out her ruthless side, and created a Met Gala dress made out of the proverbial Becky’s skin and teeth. The meme showing Beyoncé’s dress is going viral online.

Beyoncé showed up a little late to the Met Gala’s red carpet, reports E!
The publication gave Beyoncé plenty of kudos for the custom-fitted latex Givenchy gown. On social media, the reviews of Beyoncé’s dress are mixed, and folks on Facebook are fawning over everything from Beyoncé’s dress to Beyoncé’s “6 Inch” song lyrics from Lemonade.
“She works for the money, she work for the money
From the start to the finish
And she worth every dollar, she worth every dollar
And she worth every minute”
As folks begin to learn that Beyoncé walked the red carpet alone — for the first time without Jay Z in years, says Wet Paint — the saga between Beyoncé and her husband continues to interest the public.
While some individuals are criticizing Beyoncé’s latex gown, others are celebrating the look, and letting their voices be heard on social media.
“Beyoncé that dress was amazing, I GET IT BEE.”
