Carrie Underwood took her moment in the spotlight at the 2016 American Country Countdown Awards on May 1 to pay tribute to a young fan who was tragically killed on her way home from one of Underwood’s recent concerts.

After Underwood was presented with the Female Vocalist of The Year award at Fox’s country music show, Carrie opted to dedicate her award to Isley Thibodeaux, a 10-year-old who was reportedly killed by a drunk driver after leaving Underwood’s show at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana, on April 24.

Carrie honored the late fan after she was presented the prestigious award by actor Luke Wilson, telling the audience at the Forum in Inglewood, California, that she wished to dedicate the award to the late fan.

“Fans! Fans, fans, fans, fans, fans!” Underwood said during her acceptance speech, which followed a performance of her latest hit, “Church Bells.” “Thank you guys so much, it’s been so much fun seeing you guys on the road this year and we’ve just been having fun together so, thank you.”

Carrie then emotionally revealed that she was dedicating the award to young Isley, telling the crowd, “And one fan in particular,” while getting visibly emotional, “Isley Thibodeaux, this is for you.”

A slew of fans took to social media to comment on Underwood’s heartfelt tribute, with some even sharing their own tributes for Thibodeaux.

According to The Advertiser, Albert K. Sampy is accused of killing Isley, who was a passenger in another vehicle, as a result of drink driving. The site is reporting that Sampy was allegedly drunk when he hit Isley’s vehicle head-on during the evening of April 24, killing Thibodeaux as she returned home after Underwood’s Cajundome concert.

Carrie’s heartfelt tribute at the 2016 American Country Countdown Awards follows reports that Underwood also sent flowers to Isley’s memorial earlier this week.

Troy Leger of KSMB radio took to Facebook this week to reveal that he told Carrie about Isley’s tragic death and found out that the “Something in the Water” singer had opted to send flowers to Thibodaux’s family.

“While on the air yesterday – I realized that Carrie Underwood might want to know about ?#?IsleyThibodeaux? and the terrible tragedy. She seems like the kind of person who would want to acknowledge the loss in some way,” Leger wrote on Facebook on April 28.

Troy then revealed that he later received a message from Lafayette local Christopher Wayne Manuel, who confirmed Underwood’s heartfelt gesture.

“Shout out to Carrie Underwood, my wife is helping a friend this week deliver flowers, well she gets a call for some flowers to deliver to the sweet 10 year old that was taken to soon in the car accident on her way home from the concert, from Carrie,” Christopher wrote.

“Wow, such a amazing gesture. I’m not a fan of this new country music, but ma’am you just gained a whole lot of respect from me. Thanks Carrie,” Troy added.
