Did Liza Minnelli Call Ex David Gest An A***** Just Days After His Death?

It seems that feuds can continue after death, because Liza Minnelli allegedly called her former husband an a****** after his death, as it was revealed that he blamed his medical problems and amnesia on Minnelli, and the claim that she threw a stiletto at his head while the couple was still married. The claim was made by columnist Cindy Adams, who is a friend of Minnelli’s, and attended the Minnelli/Gest wedding back in 2002.

In a column for Page Six, Cindy Adams quoted Minnelli in saying that Gest was an a******, and Adams commented that the actual marriage lasted about as long as a colonoscopy. But with the quote, it is possible that Minnelli called Gest the name prior to his death, rather than after his death.

“While he was breathing she wouldn’t even speak to him. Now that he’s not breathing she wouldn’t even speak about him.”

Adams is suggesting that Minnelli married David Gest back in 2002 because he promised to “juice up her career.” But according to Adams, the marriage to Gest (who Adams claims wore more mascara than she did) not only didn’t help Minnelli’s career, but landed her in a lawsuit,when Gest claimed that Minnelli hit her. The claim was dismissed.

“The claim was dismissed, and we all dismissed David.”

Ouch

But according to the Huffington Post, Minnelli claims she did not comment publicly on her former husband’s death, but she didn’t say that she had never called Gest an a******. A spokesman for Minnelli claimed semantically that any claim that the singer spoke about Gest after death is “misleading.”

“Liza Minnelli has not addressed Mr Gest’s passing and any suggestion that she has done so following his death is misleading.”

So it sounds like Minnelli had called Gest that name in the past, and Cindy Adams was repeating it to demonstrate how her friend, Liza Minnelli, felt in general about David Gest. In response to David Gest’s lawsuit (that was dismissed), Minnelli filed a counter suit, claiming that Gest had stolen money from her during the marriage.

The Sun claims that David Gest was struggling with prescription drug addiction in the period before his death, as a result of an injury he faced when Minnelli hit him in the head with a stiletto heel. Gest, 62 was found dead in a London hotel, and was according to friend, Mark Lester, suffering from amnesia and memory loss due to the assault with the stiletto.

“But he said his memory had gone because of clashes in their relationship and being struck on the head by Liza’s stiletto.”

Lester says that Gest asked him to try to close the gaps in his memory. Lester said that Gest also struggled with OCD, and had set up a rescue center in New York for himself and his celebrity friends in case of another terror attack. Lester claims that Gest told him he had gotten out of the marriage with Minnelli because he was a victim of domestic violence, claiming that Minnelli threw things at him, and beat him in the face and on the head with her fists.

The Daily Mail is reporting that David Gest was “strung out on sleeping pills” in the days before his death, and had been disoriented in recent weeks. In the weeks before his death, it was also said that Gest had suffered with high blood pressure and pneumonia. Friends claim that Gest had been taking a combination of strong meds before his death.

“He also suffered from high blood pressure, which he had special tablets for, and had been on sleeping pills for years because he suffered from insomnia – he always slept at weird times.”

Minnelli will likely decide not to comment on the death of David Gest again.
