AMC's Fear The Walking Dead Season 2 Alycia Debnam-Carey stars as Alicia

‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Season 2: Who Is Jack And Has Alicia Just Doomed Them All?

The Season 2 premiere of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead ended with a cliffhanger. Many fans are wondering if this cliffhanger has anything to do with the mysterious character, Jack, who Alicia was talking to via radio during Episode 1. Let’s see if we can work out just who Jack really is.

SPOILER ALERT: This article discusses Season 2 of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

Through the course of Episode 1 (entitled “Monsters”) of Fear The Walking Dead, Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) kept in contact with a mysterious person called Jack via CB radio. Many fans automatically assumed the worst, even this early in the zombie apocalypse.

At first, it all seems quite innocent between the two but as the episode progresses, Jack’s boat starts taking on water–or does it? This is when he starts asking Alicia, in earnest, about her location. However, by this stage, Alicia has already let him know just how grand a boat they actually have, so it might just be a ploy for him to take over her vessel. But, he sticks by the “sinking ship” story and manages to get an approximate location on where Alicia is.

Episode 1 of Fear The Walking Dead concludes Jack announcing to Alicia, “It’s okay Alicia, I got you. I’ll see you soon,” when Alicia tells them they can’t rescue them. Right after this, a vessel appears on Strand’s (Colman Domingo) radar and it is time to get out of their way because they just might have been the vessel that riddled the shipwreck floating next to them with bullets.

So is this approaching vessel even a threat? Is it the same vessel Jack is on, or is it completely unrelated? And can Jack even be trusted? After all, his final words to Alicia imply he has located Strand’s yacht.

The official synopsis for Episode 2 (entitled “We All Fall Down”) is as follows and may give a clue.

“The group seeks shelter with a survivalist family; Salazar tries to reveal Strand’s intentions.”

Does Alicia’s group find this “survivalist family” to seek refuge from the approaching vessel, or could Jack be a part of this survivalist family? Maybe Jack is one of the good guys and has been attacked by another vessel and is sinking. Maybe they are trying to return to shore and hitch a ride on Strand’s yacht in return for shelter? Episode 2 images released by AMC show at least some part of the time is spent on shore, so maybe Fear’s time on the high seas is over before it even began?

Even if Jack is a part of the survivalist family, little is known about him. Even the Fear The Walking Dead Wikia hasn’t posted anything in relation to this mysterious character. When checking the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), Jack isn’t listed as one of the characters yet in Fear The Walking Dead. This could mean that Jack is completely irrelevant to the storyline in Season 2 or it may mean that AMC is withholding the name of the actor who plays Jack in order to avoid spoilers. For example, if Jack was listed as “voice only” for one episode, it would indicate that his role is not important in subsequent episodes as the audience would already know his role has been fulfilled. However, even when characters are listed, it is still no guarantee that they will only appear for the episodes listed. Also, if an actor is listed in the opening credits, they are often considered as appearing in that episode even if they aren’t. So IMDb can be tricky to interpret, even at the best of times.

As yet, it appears fans will just have to tune into Episode 2 of Fear The Walking Dead to find out just how important Jack is and whether he is on the vessel approaching Strand’s yacht.
