Scarlett Johansson & Ryan Reynolds’ Marriage Fail: ‘Deadpool’ Star Jokes About Sex Life With Blake Lively
Scarlett Johansson is revealing why her marriage to Ryan Reynolds fell apart. The blonde bombshell is gracing the cover of Cosmopolitan’s May, 2016, issue.
Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds’ Hollywood marriage only lasted three years. Now, the Captain America: Civil War star is reflecting back on why their union came to an end in 2011. Without outwardly mentioning her famous ex-husband by name, Johansson, 31, hinted that it may have something to do with the fact they became too competitive in their respective acting careers.
“The logistics of being with another actor are challenging. There has to be a real understanding of how you share your time, especially when two people’s careers are going at the same rate. Or even if one person is more successful than the other, that also proves challenging. There may be a competitive thing.”
Both Scarlett and Ryan have since moved on from their marriage. Scarlett married French art dealer Romain Dauriac in 2014, and they share 20-month-old daughter, Rose. She was also previously linked to Benicio Del Toro, Jared Leto, Justin Timberlake, and Sean Penn, as the magazine points out.
Johansson and Reynolds dated in 2007 and married in a quiet ceremony in 2008. The couple then decided to go their separate ways three years later. In an honest interview with C Magazine in 2014, Johansson gave some input at what went down during their marriage.
“[My divorce from Ryan was] a very lonely thing. It’s like the loneliest thing you’ll ever do, in some ways. I’ve had a fair amount of time to process the experience and go forward. I continue to get to know myself better as I get older, and that helps me in my relationships.”
The actress also revealed to Cosmo about the time she was in a toxic relationship with someone who wouldn’t give her the time of day. That’s when she realized it was time to move on.
“Long, long ago, I had someone in my life who was forever unavailable… but, like, so attractively unavailable. You have to get to your breaking point… rock bottom is the moment when you’re like, ‘I’ve lost myself. Why am I standing outside this bar at 1:30 in the morning texting while my friends are inside? Or taking a taxi to see him at some ungodly hour? This isn’t me.’ That is the moment you’ve gotta cut it off. Otherwise, it will keep coming back, suck your blood.”
During the interview, Scarlett admitted that “moving to Paris” was the best decision she ever made. While Ryan and his wife, Blake Lively, live quietly in Bedford, New York, Scarlett says she doesn’t see herself living in the suburbs anytime soon.
“It seems wonderful to be raised in a natural setting, but I wouldn’t know how to do it. A big city would always draw me back.”
Both Scarlett and Ryan seemed to be super private about their relationship. They never stepped out together at red carpet events. They also never talked about their relationship in interviews. It seems like both actors are more public with their current spouses.
“I want to thank my wife, Blake. Everything I do is to make her laugh, especially the sex!” he exclaimed.
Both Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds have been making big names for themselves by starring in Marvel films. Johansson has portrayed the character of Natasha Romanoff in Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and most recently, Captain America: Civil War. Meanwhile, Reynolds has recently starred in 2016’s Deadpool and 2011’s Green Lantern.
