Jennifer Lopez Takes Heat For Working With Dr. Luke, Shares About Favorite ‘American Idol’ Winner

Jennifer Lopez has recently released one sizzling track which she performed live on the hit talent-scouting show, for which she is a judge, on Thursday night. During the American Idol finale, Lopez sang her latest catchy track, “Ain’t Your Mama,” that was written by talented singer/songwriter Meghan Trainor. The upbeat track had fans engaged and dancing along with Jen during the performance. However, a large number of fans have expressed their frustrations with the triple threat pop star, seeing as the single was produced by Dr. Luke, a musical heavyweight who has been at the center of controversy as of late.

News.com, Australia relays the controversy that has surrounded Dr. Luke over the past few months and notes why Lopez’ fans are not entirely impressed with the singer.

“Dr Luke is currently at the centre of a legal scandal, following singer Kesha’s claims that he sexually abused her. Kesha filed a lawsuit against Dr Luke in 2013, claiming he physically and emotionally abused her. Many artists, including Adele, Lady Gaga and Kelly Clarkson, have publicly voiced their support for Kesha.”

Dr. Luke, ahead of these allegations, had worked with Kesha for nearly a decade and has denied all accusations brought against him, additionally counter-suing Kesha and her mother. As aforementioned, a number of celebrities of the music industry have shown support for Kesha, despite their previous collaborations with the well-known producer.

When news broke and word got out that Jennifer Lopez had, in fact, worked with Dr. Luke on her latest single, “Ain’t Your Mama,” there was immediate backlash against the star on social media, mainly via Twitter. As the publication notes, “Lopez is signed to Sony division Epic Records. Sony also co-owns Dr Luke’s label, Kemosabe Records.” This makes for a natural and expected collaboration between Jen and Dr. Luke. It is, however, not being taken lightly that Lopez wouldn’t forego the team effort on the new single.

Jennifer Lopez has yet to comment on the controversy surrounding her recent efforts with Dr. Luke, yet has made comments about the hit reality talent show she has been a part of for a number of seasons now. Jen was sure to share about her favorite winner on American Idol.

As Just Jared relays, Lopez recently shared that Phillip Phillips is her favorite victor of the long-running competition. Lopez relayed her fandom for the singing sensation while chatting with Rolling Stone magazine.

“I love Scotty McCreery as well because he was the first winner on [my] first season. But the one I listen to and stay abreast of his career: Phillip Phillips.”

It’s certainly not an easy feat to select a favorite seeing as such talent has taken to the stage over the many years, some of which Lopez was not a co-judge, that the show has aired. Rolling Stone reminds of this.

“[T]he vocal competition has been a mainstay of popular culture for 14 years, beaming into our living rooms to introduce us to Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, Jennifer Hudson and, yes, William Hung.”

Lopez also expressed her feelings on having to say goodbye to a show that has been responsible for entertaining millions of viewers over the past 14 years.

“[I’ll miss]what everybody in America is going to miss about it: Just being able to watch dreams come true. It opened up a whole new avenue for people to find a way into the business. It’s so hard to break in and you have to have tenacity, but it’s luck, too, and most people don’t ever have that little break, that thing that happens. This provided an opportunity that never existed before.”
