Tyrese As Green Lantern? ‘Furious 7’ Actor Tyrese Gibson Deserves A Shot At Green Lantern

Tyrese Gibson deserves a shot at playing Green Lantern on the big screen.

The Furious 7 actor would more than likely make a great big-screen candidate to play Green Lantern. Over the past year, there have been quite a few fan-made videos and artistic renditions of Tyrese Gibson wearing the Green Lantern costume circulating online. Tyrese has even promoted and posted quite a few of them himself, especially in recent months.

For instance, earlier this month, he posted a picture of himself and actor Chris Pine both wearing Green Lantern masks. The year “2020” is listed beneath the “Green Lantern” title in the center of the photo.

Even though he did not provide any confirmation or official announcement of his involvement within the photo’s caption, Tyrese did post the iconic statement that Green Lantern is known for saying.

“In brightest day, in blackest night, No evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil’s might, Beware my power, Green Lantern’s light!”

Tyrese also posted another picture featuring himself and Chris Pine as different versions of Green Lantern on the same week with the same caption. He also told his followers that they could receive more information from the link found in his bio, but (as of Sunday) that link is no longer there. The only link that is currently on Tyrese’s profile is the Vimeo link for his “Black Book Movie” short film.

Even though Tyrese has yet to officially confirm his involvement with the DC Cinematic Universe as John Stewart and/or Green Lantern, he did open up to Larry King about his conversation with Warner Bros.

According to ComicBook, Tyrese set the record straight by crediting fan-made artwork and videos for even sparking the conversations about the Transformers actor starring in a big-screen film as the Green Lantern.

“I was like, ‘Woah, that looks cool.’ And I posted it on my Instagram, and it just went crazy… And it was just all of this buzz, and I was like I might as well run with this thing. And I did. Pissed the people off, a little bit, at Warner Brothers because they thought that I had convinced the world that I had landed the role, which I didn’t. And I said, ‘If you go down my timeline, at no point did I say the role is mine.’ But, you know, there have been other artists, actors and actresses who have put up images of them as a comic book character and ended up landing a role. So I was like, it’s worth giving it a shot.”

Tyrese did admit to Larry King that he has not heard from Zack Snyder, but he did have a meeting with Warner Bros. Even though nothing is confirmed and the possibility of Tyrese becoming Green Lantern on the big screen is still nothing more than rumors and speculation, Gibson made it clear to Larry that he “would love to do it.”

In recent years, there have been a lot of rumors and speculation trying to identify a wish list of potential actors to take over the role that Ryan Reynolds apparently wants nothing to do with anymore.

With the international box-office success of Batman v Superman, more and more fans and critics of the DC Cinematic Universe are waiting and wondering who will play Green Lantern in the upcoming Justice League film.

During Batman v Superman, each of the Justice League members made at least a cameo appearance in the film. Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman had the most speaking lines and overall screen time, but most of the other Justice League members made their big debut for at least a few moments at some point during the film. That is, of course, except for Green Lantern.

Perhaps Tyrese Gibson and/or Chris Pine will be the ones to fill the void of Green Lantern that was apparently left open by Ryan Reynolds. Only time will tell. However, it is apparently clear that Tyrese Gibson at least deserves a shot at playing the Green Lantern.
