Kacey Musgraves ‘High Time’: 4/20 Show Already Sold Out

In light of Kacey Musgraves’ newest single “High Time,” the singer has a special 4/20 concert. Unfortunately for fans, the show has already sold out.

Kacey Musgraves has made many references to her love of marijuana in her songs. She recently sold out a special April 20 show in Denver shortly after it was announced on April 1. The show takes place in Mile High City on the unofficial weed smokers’ day. Fans assumed that the concert was a joke at first, especially since it was announced on April Fools’ Day.

“Come get weird,” said the Facebook post announcing the concert held at the Bluebird Theater in the weed-legal state’s capital city. The phrase is also heard in the lyrics of Kacey’s song “High Time” from her 2015 release, Pageant Material. In honor of the weed-loving holiday, Kacey also has T-shirts that read “High Time” available on her online store. Each fan will receive a free pack of hemp rolling papers as a special gift.

Musgraves sets herself apart from her fellow female country singers by proudly singing about “rolling up a joint” in her CMA award-winning song “Follow Your Arrow.” In addition to her sold-out concert, Musgraves headed to Nashville on Saturday, April 9, to play a special performance at Tin Pan South with songwriters Shane McAnally and Josh Oborne.

She will also perform in Austin, TX, and Charlotte, NC, at Zac Brown Band’s Southern Ground & Food Festival in Charleston, SC, on April 17 before she heads down to Denver on April 20. If you didn’t score tickets for Kacey’s special 4/20 concert, you can check out her performance of “High Time” on the Late Late Show With James Corden.

Musgraves was surrounded by her classic giant pink cacti and her backup band. She gave a stripped-down performance of the opening song on her second studio album. Musgraves was decked out in a short black bejeweled dress and white flower in her hair as she crooned about her plans to “turn off my phone/and catch up with the old me.”

She also performed at South by Southwest 2016 (SXSW for short), which took place between March 15 and March 20. Kacey was the first country singer to headline a set. During her set on Thursday, March 17, she captivated the audience as she played some of her hit songs. They applauded loudly after her set-opener “High Time,” especially when Kacey admitted that she was “kinda drunk.” The crowd roared when she started playing “Good Ol’ Boys Club,” which includes the infamous line, “Another gear in a big machine don’t sound like fun to me.”

She then played a cover of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” and Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’,” both of which showed how she stands out among her country contemporaries.

Last summer, the singer-songwriter explained the meaning behind her album Pageant Material.

“I don’t go into a record with a theme in mind. I just let the songs come and somewhere along the way they take shape on their own.”

Pageant Material is the follow-up album to Musgraves’ 2013 Grammy-award winning debut album, Same Trailer Different Park.

“We’ve been touring consistently for the last few years now. In doing so, I feel like I’ve just gotten closer to knowing what my sound is, what I’m going for. All this time was building to go into the studio again. It was easier to pinpoint where I wanted to go.”
