Prom Dress Styles In 2016: Two-Piece, Midriff Baring Prom Dresses Are All The Rage

Prom dress styles in 2016 sure have changed from prior years. Certain prom dresses appear as stylish as the above gown worn by model Chanel Iman, when she attended the Vanity Fair Oscar Party on Sunday, February 28, in Beverly Hills, California. However, certain prom dress styles are also causing controversy in 2016, with Yahoo asking its readers if midriff prom dress styles are appropriate — or if certain prom dresses should be banned when 2016 prom season rolls around.

Either way, the two-piece prom dress styles are fashionably pretty, and being shown off in Instagram photos and videos like the one above — under hashtags like “Prom2016” and “Prom2K16” or simply #PromDress.

The prom dress styles of the 2016 season not only involve exposed midriffs, but exposed backs as well — along with gorgeous sparkles throughout some of the prom dresses.

Although the two-piece prom dress style is trending in 2016, all of those two-piece prom dresses might have to pass an inspection process for some schools. The fashion site Polyvore reports that two-piece prom dresses have increased quite a bit. Compared to 2015, two-piece prom dress searches have increased 153 percent.

However, schools like Choctaw High School in Florida might not deem the two-piece prom dresses suitable for prom, as reported by the NWF Daily News. Photos of the two-piece and all other prom dresses have to be submitted and approved by school admins prior to the April 16 prom. Prior approval makes sense in terms of how expensive some prom dresses can run, with an approval desired prior to spending money on a two-piece prom dress that might be disapproved.

A search through social media for the two-piece prom dress styles in 2016 proves that school officials might not have much to worry about, with plenty of those two-piece prom dresses appearing tasteful — with lots of them even covering the belly button, and being so long that they are almost a one-piece prom dress.

With nearly 200,000 Instagram photos tagged “two-piece,” the prom dresses featured therein lots of times contain a halter style, sparkly bra type of top — matched with a long and flowing skirt at the bottom.

In fact, most of the styles of prom dresses that show up on Instagram under the “two-piece” hashtags display halter tops that are bejeweled, coupled with skirts that sit high on the waist. Some of those skirts are fitted, like the one shown in the photo above, which has matching decorations at the waist. That fitted two-piece prom dress is a stunning shade of blue.

Certain prom dress styles in 2016 feature a lace top for the two-piece dress’ top, while the bottom of the dress is a flared and floral skirt, as seen above.

While certain individuals are sharing their two-piece prom style dresses on social media — others are stores promoting their two-piece wares just in time for prom season to heat up in 2016.

Not all of the two-piece prom dress styles come with a lengthy skirt that hits the floor or stops at the ankles. Some of the two-piece prom dresses come with skirts that flare out and stop before the knees, as seen in the above photo.

The two-piece prom dress style is one that isn’t totally new for the 2016 season, but has returned as a favorite for prom 2016 season — having shown up during prior prom seasons.

The two-piece prom dress is a flattering look that’s cropping up everywhere online.

Beyond the two-piece prom dress style, other styles like the above dress, which shows a lot of see-through fabric and gorgeous lace-like designs, are truly ones that make viewers say, “Wow.” Prom dresses in 2016 surely have come a long way.
