‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Takes Top Prize In MTV Movie Awards, While DVD Tops April Charts

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the seventh installment in the Star Wars franchise. It was released in December, 2015, by Disney, and since its release, it has grossed over $2 billion worldwide. Fans were largely delighted by the new release as it brought together old characters from the original trilogy and introduced new characters into the mix. MTV has now named Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the movie of the year.

MTV reported that Star Wars: The Force Awakens took home its top award at the awards show and won movie of the year. Actress Daisy Ridley was the breakthrough performance winner, and she and director J. J. Abrams were on hand to accept the award for movie of the year.

Ridley and Abrams left production behind for the new Episode VIII to attend the awards ceremony. They made a splash at their entrance to the show when they walked through a deconstructed First Order Starkiller base, while hundreds of audience members held light sabers.

As previously reported in Inquisitr, Star Wars: The Force Awakens passed the $2 billion mark while production began on Star Wars: Episode VIII. The movie earned the $1 billion mark faster than any other movie in history, and it had the biggest global and domestic opening of any movie in history. The next installment, although it doesn’t have a title, is currently in production and set to launch on December 15, 2017.

Disney also has three anthology movies planned. The first, Star Wars: Rogue One, is a prequel to A New Hope and tells the story of the rebels’ plans to steal the plans to the Death Star. The next anthology movie tells the story of a young Han Solo. No word has been been released on the topic of the third movie in the anthology, and no titles or trailers have yet to be released for the last two.

The Duluth News Tribune reported that Star Wars: The Force Awakens topped the April 5 releases to DVD. The Star Wars franchise is now considered the most successful movie franchise in history. This latest release combines the elements that made the original so popular and wonderful to watch while adding new characters and tying the story together in a way that makes it accessible to new generations of moviegoers.

One of the most important things cited about Star Wars: The Force Awakens is that it is a family saga, and the seventh installment doesn’t disappoint. Although it has been criticized for being similar to the original Star Wars movie, A New Hope, this movie emphasizes George Lucas’s strengths, including the story of family, the fight between good and evil, friendship, and the necessity of finding one’s place in the galaxy.

After the release of a second lackluster trilogy heavy on CGI in the early 2000s, Disney revived the Star Wars universe with the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Fans were delighted to see the return of old characters Princess Leia (now General Leia), Luke Skywalker, and Han Solo. R2D2 and C3PO also returned. New characters included Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron, as well as a new villain named Kylo Ren. The seventh movie installment picks up 30 years after the end of the Return of the Jedi, and the rebels have become the resistance. They now face a new enemy in the First Order, and it is led by Kylo Ren. It debuted in American theaters on December 18, 2015.
