Drew Barrymore And Will Kopelman’s Divorce Was A ‘Slow Burn’

Sometimes, when it comes to matters of the heart, it seems like one thing going astray can set a couple down the wrong path, but we’re finding out this wasn’t the case for Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman.

As the Inquisitr reported, Barrymore and Kopelman publicly announced in a joint statement that they plan to divorce. So what went wrong? Well, it can’t be blamed on one thing for this pair. According to a source close to the situation, Barrymore and Kopelman’s decision to divorce was a slow burn that mounted.

A source told E!, “This was a slow burn. It was not a decision that they came to over night. They worked on things for a long time and have had time to adjust.”

It’s said that Barrymore has cut back on acting in order to focus on her family, specifically daughters Frankie and Olive. The two are still figuring out how to remain as normal as possible despite the divorce. The source chimed in, saying, “Keeping everyone together was important to her. Drew is doing well.”

Despite Barrymore having high spirits, and looking great during her first outing post split announcement, a source said that it was a very hard decision to make and one that they didn’t make hastily.

“It was a hard decision, but they knew it was for the best. They will remain close and will put their kids first no matter what. They are both handling things well. They both have had time to adjust to this.”

In a statement to People magazine, the pair said of the decision to split, “Sadly our family is separating legally, although we do not feel this takes away from us being a family. Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on.”

Earlier, the Inquisitr reported that one of the reasons pointing to their split was conflict over where to live. Kopelman loves New York, whereas Drew Barrymore is a “free spirit” and loves California. Currently, the pair is still in New York raising their girls.

At the time, a source told People magazine that the couple was having issues for a while, which echoes the source who spoke with E!

While this seems like an amicable split so far, a source told Us Weekly that they really didn’t get along because they were too different. “She’s so hippie-dippy and all over the place and it started to become unbearable for him. She just didn’t fit in.”

In Barrymore’s new book Wildflower, she revealed that it wasn’t love at first sight for her and Will. She explained that they dated for a bit and then went their separate ways before bumping into each other, and decided later on to take the leap into something much more serious.

Barrymore went on to say that she fell in love with his family, specifically his mother and father, whom she adopted as her own.

Months ago she told Marie Claire about her built-in family, “I didn’t think I would ever get to experience that. This is so safe and positive and healthy because they have their values intact. It was huge for me. And that’s what I want for my family.”

Although this must be a difficult time, Barrymore returned to social media to go back to business as usual. She promoted Barrymore Wines, and her friend Cameron Diaz’s book, The Longevity Book.

I am so proud of my dearest girlfriend. She is smart! Kind! Fun! And now has her second book available with all her knowledge and passion! #longevitybook @camerondiaz get yours today LINK in my BIO
