Misty Cook, Sikh Temple Shooter’s Ex, Arrested On Gun Charge
Authorities in Wisconsin have arrested the ex-girlfriend of Sikh temple shooter Wade Michael Page after finding a gun at her South Milwaukee residence.
According to ABC News, Misty Cook, a 31-year-old waitress and nursing student with reported ties to white supremacist organizations, was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with possessing a gun, which is illegal because she is a felon.
Milwaukee police released the following statement after Cook’s arrest:
“In a joint investigation with the FBI, the South Milwaukee Police Department has arrested Misty Cook on the crime of felon in possession of a firearm. Charges will be sought through the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.”
Neither the local police nor federal agents involved in the investigation have suggested that Cook or the recovered weapon was linked to the Michael Page’s Sunday morning massacre at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek that left six people dead.
Page, a 40-year-old Army veteran who neighbors say played in a so-called hate-rock band, was the lone gunman in the rampage at the temple, police said. He was shot to death by police responding to the attack.
The FBI, which did not have an active file on Page before the killings, hope that his former girlfriend will be able to shed some light into what led up to the Sikh temple shooting but so far believe that the two had limited, if any, contact in the weeks leading up to the incident.
Sources speaking with Good Morning America say that the relationship between the suspected shooter and Cook fell apart weeks before the rampage.
“She had put his stuff in the basement and told him if he needed anything else just to get it out of the basement, she really didn’t want him around,” said Bernie O’Dea, Cook’s mother.
