Jennifer Garner: Her ‘Mom-Style’ Defended, Star Has Massive Appeal For Relatability

Wholesome and talented beauty Jennifer Garner may be viewed by the fashion-savvy and haute-couture proficient as a bit under-whelming in style and fashion sense. Her clothing choices are not entirely trendy or memorable by any stretch. The mother-of-three, busy as she may be making hit films and spending as much time with her little ones, whom she shares with ex-husband Ben Affleck, has fallen into that grouping of women termed by publications such as BuzzFeed as the “Minivan Majority.”

E! Online shares the perception that the fashion world has on the striking star, noting that Jen’s Miracles From Heaven wardrobe isn’t far removed from the actress’ everyday duds and could quite possibly market her “everyday look into a full-fledged lifestyle brand — to the delight of mainstream mothers everywhere,” much like Reese Witherspoon and Gwyneth Paltrow.

All that aside, lifestyle, fashion brand or not, the publication indicates that there is a power that Jen holds by way of her mainstream-mom style.

“In just over a decade, Jennifer went from Maxim‘s ‘Sexiest Woman Alive’ and barely there Alias costumes to walking around town, bare-faced in jeans and a comfortable sweater. It’s a refreshing perception of celebrity that’s so relatable that not even the fashion elite can ignore her mass appeal.”

The “casual-cool” and “effortless” look is appealing to the everyday woman which allows Jen to hold an ongoing massive appeal to women internationally. The unpretentious character and appearance that we all know Jen to have makes her a celeb who is actually relatable to the masses.

Krista Smith of Vanity Fair also highlighted the appeal that Garner has.

“This native West Virginian’s relaxed, unpretentious style has made her arguably one of the most respected public mothers in America and still a draw at the box office.”

Perhaps the additional appeal that Garner holds at the moment has to do with her overly-public split from her husband of 10 years, Ben Affleck, and the praise she has garnered for holding her head up through the media storm, spewing out allegations of a nanny-infidelity scandal, which all made her extremely newsworthy.

However, no one can deny the magnetic demeanor Garner exudes and the lack of concern she has for what onlookers or fashionistas think of her. There is something to be said for a celebrity who really just continues to live in the clothing she wishes, without feeding into the pressures of brands and expectations of sex appeal. She is a proud mother, as well as a talented and naturally-gorgeous actress who has earned her status without altering who she is to please others.

Garner admitted her lack of concern for being in the “beauty spotlight” during an interview with Allure magazine back in 2014.

“I’m not someone who should be in a beauty spotlight. I was one of those people who wore pajamas to class every day in college, and I would still be that way if I could! I’m in New Balance sneakers every day.”

Matt Damon, close pal to Ben Affleck and notable actor, shared back in 2013 just how appealing Garner is to women of the Midwest — those who are typically associated with “wholesome” and “all-American” sensibilities. Speaking to the Guardian, Damon was candid, saying “Ben’s wife, Jennifer Garner, sells a sh*#load of magazines in the Midwest.”

While visiting Jimmy Fallon on his late-night show, following her appearance at the Oscars, Garner poked fun at herself and the lengths that women at such extravagant red-carpet events go to, where fashion is only secondary to the Academy nominees and victors of the night.

“‘See how I have a waist right there?’ she said of her custom Versace dress from the 2016 Oscars. ‘I don’t have one in real life anymore. What they do is they move your organs around. There are basically two men who come in with screwguns, and they screwed me into a metal corset—this isn’t true, but it was a metal corset and it did take two Italian people. The next thing you know, my ribs were compressed.'”
