Is Snapchat Down? Connectivity Issues Plague App Users After Fun Updates Added

Snapchat is down for thousands of users around the globe, all experiencing connectivity issues. The popular social media app, which allows users to send pictures and videos to one another with 10-second maximum viewing pleasure, has been causing serious grief since nothing appears to load or send. The issues appear to be intermittent, but have yet to be resolved.

Some users experiencing issues will get a notification that they have a Snap waiting, but when they open the app, there’s nothing there. Others have been trying to send Snapchats to friends, but their message simply won’t send. Most users keep getting a gray bar at the top of their screen that reads, “Could not refresh. Please try again.”

Snapchat has received word that the app isn’t working properly for some users and says that they are working to solve the problem(s).

Snapchat went down for users after adding some pretty cool new updates. The new Chat 2.0 could actually be the reason for the crash, according to TechCrunch. The site suggests that an increased user interest may have crashed the app, making it nearly impossible for anyone to send or receive messages from other app users.

“The outage comes just days after Snapchat released its big Chat 2.0 update that brought stickers and other new features, but possibly more traffic that the service could handle.”

The new Snapchat “Chat 2.0” was introduced to the world two days ago. According to the company’s release, there are quite a few new features that app users have been having fun with — or had been, before the app stopped working.

“You can start by sending a few chats, and when your friend shows up, start talking or video chatting instantly with one tap. Your friend can simply listen if you want to sing them a song, or watch if you have a new puppy to show them. If they aren’t there, you can quickly send an audio note to say what you mean.”

In addition to the features above, stories will now also auto-play from one to the next. That is, if you get to the end of Kim Kardashian’s Snapstory, you will just keep watching into Kourtney’s (substitute friends’ names as applicable).

Also, there are now fun (and funny) stickers that you can send to your friends. Some of them make sense, some of them don’t, but most of them are just plain cute.

When Snapchat is no longer down, you’ll be able to go back to sending picture messages (filters not optional at this point. Really. If you’re not using a Snapchat filter, what are you doing with your life?), videos, stickers, and watching people’s stories to pass your day or night.

Snapchat is a free app that can be downloaded onto your mobile device. You can add other users by taking a photo of their “Snapcode,” entering their username, or looking them up by their phone number, listed in your address book.
