Food Fight Sends One Brother To The Hospital And Another To Jail

Food is critical for survival, but most people might think that it’s hardly any reason to send a sibling to the hospital when there’s a whole pot roast to share.

Well, two brothers in Muncie, Indiana, didn’t agree with this notion, and one brother ended up in the hospital while another brother ended up in jail after an epic fight over food broke out on Monday after midnight.

According to Fox 59, 49-year-old Rodney Gilliam allegedly stabbed his younger brother repeatedly with a three-pronged fork after they argued about who the food belonged to.

Randy Gilliam, the stabbing victim, called the incident “brotherly stuff,” because you know, these things happen on occasion between hungry brothers and meaty food.

Police say the brothers had been drinking and started arguing over the food, a pot roast, and that’s when things got out of hand.

“I had one de-thawing and I thought it was the one and it wasn’t and all he probably had to do was open the refrigerator and tell me it was there and it would’ve been squashed,” said the injured Randy Gilliam.

Apparently, Rodney had attempted to cook the food during the night — a pot roast and potatoes — and Randy argued that the food did not belong to him. Instead of calmly discussing the situation, Rodney allegedly armed himself with a salad fork and attacked his 35-year-old brother.

Randy was injured on the face and has a busted lip, swollen eye, and stitches all over his head from the food fight and stabbing. His arm was also punctured in the food fight. At first he went to a friend’s house, and then he ended up at the emergency room by ambulance, although his friend tried to take him to the emergency room by car. They were pulled over by police on the way to the hospital. Sometime in the chaos, Randy had also called 911, according to The Star Press.

When the police got to the home of the food fight on North Biltmore Avenue, they found blood all over the place. It was outside on the front porch and inside on the stairs showing the way to the bedroom where the stabbing over the food happened.

Rodney Gilliam was arrested for attacking his brother and charged with aggravated battery. Randy Gilliam doesn’t think his brother deserves to be sitting behind bars over the food fight.

“A family squabble, I mean, like I said I’m sorry he’s going to jail for it. I don’t want to see him do that but I guess, you know, you shouldn’t stab me,” said Randy Gilliam.

Neighbors speculated about how good the food must have been to have spurred the brothers into an all-out food fight.

“A pot roast? It must’ve been good,” said the Gilliam’s neighbor, Meaghan Warrell.

Amazingly, this is not the first time the Muncie Police have been called to an incident in which someone was stabbed over food.

“Pretty bizarre but not the first time we’ve had a stabbing incident happen over meat,” said Kyle Monroe, a detective with the Muncie Police Department.

Last year at a large family barbeque, a woman stabbed another woman in the eye over the last rib, according to Fox 59. Neighbors were equally astounded over that incident.

“It was just so ridiculous…. Barbecue’s good and all that, but it’s not worth sticking somebody in the eye with a fork, you know?”

Gilliam was being held in the Delaware County jail on Tuesday under a $20,000 bond over the food fighting incident.
