Jodie Sweetin Dishes On Her Sobriety: Did She Drink While Pregnant?

Jodie Sweetin is opening up about her sobriety. The former child star is not giving up on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. And she’s not giving up when it comes to her sobriety.

The Fuller House star celebrated her fifth anniversary of her sobriety this month. The 34-year-old is also taking TV by storm by starring on the Netflix reboot and appearing on Dancing with the Stars. Sweetin’s long addiction to drugs and alcohol began shortly after Full House ended in 1995.

In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Jodie admits that she’s finally free.

“We all have our demons. When we finally learn to let them go, we get to live and be free.”

These days, Jodie’s life is fulfilling. She has two daughters, Zoie, 7, and Beatrix, 5. She’s also on two hit shows and is engaged to fiancé Justin Hodak.

“I look back at things that have happened in the past, and I look where I’m now, and it’s crazy. If anything, my life is a lesson to never give up.”

Sweetin credits Hodak for her sobriety. Although she was sober when she started dating him in 2014, he understands what she’s going through because he’s also a recovering addict.

“He was 11 years sober in December. We turn to each other for support. We both have our own lives and things we’re excited about, but we combine that, where we have this great relationship.”

She’s been married three times. Jodie married her first husband Shaun Holguin in 2002. The couple divorced in 2006. Jodie then met Cody Harpin, and they began dating in May 2007 and were later married on July 14, 2007. The couple had one daughter, Zoie. On November 19, 2008, Jodie filed for divorce from Cody. The couple’s divorce was finalized on April 20, 2010.

Sweetin and her boyfriend of one year, Morty Coyle, had one child, Beatrix. Sweetin and Coyle then married on March 15, 2012. Sweetin filed for legal separation from Coyle in June 2013. She says that she’s finally found the one with Hodak.

“He’s so different and, really importantly, I’m different. I haven’t always had the best luck in relationships, and I’ve learned a lot of lessons. I want to be married. I don’t think there’s anything wrong admitting that it didn’t work before and trying again.”

The actress has been open and honest about her alcohol, cocaine, and crystal meth abuse. Jodie even admitted that she was high when she visited colleges campuses across the nation to tell them how she overcame drug addiction and to inspire them to sober themselves. Jodie admitted to Us Weekly that during her lowest point, she drank while pregnant with her first daughter.

After her period of recovery, “there were a couple instances of me drinking.”

“Those things I never thought I would do, I did. I was living a double life,” Sweetin revealed.

She also confessed the time she hit “rock bottom” was when she drank two glasses of wine and drove with her healthy daughter in the car.

“I not only put myself in danger, but also my daughter, who I loved more than anything.”

After she realized there was a custody investigation into her alcohol use, she immediately placed herself in a 12-step program. Jodie embarked on her journey to sobriety in 2011 after the birth of her youngest daughter, Beatrix.

In a blog post on People, the sexy Fuller House star says that she’s still very much a mom these days, but she does want to embrace her sexuality. But if you see some of the sexy outfits she wears on the Netflix series, you can tell that Jodie is working it these days.

“I’m a mom of two young kids. It has been a long time since I have embraced my sexy side. I think a lot of moms would agree that when you become a parent, you think of yourself as a mother first, and then a woman as a distant second.”

Jodie Sweetin’s Us Weekly cover story, “How I Got Sober and Found Love,” is on newsstands now. You can watch Sweetin and the rest of the contestants on Dancing with the Stars on Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
