Michael J. Fox Attends White House

Michael J. Fox, many people’s favorite childhood hero in his iconic role as Marty McFly in the Back to the Future movies, was recently in attendance at a dinner with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the White House, according to the Huffington Post.

Michael J. Fox wasn’t the only Michael in the house, because accompanying him at the dinner was none other than Mike Myers. The dinner was a very memorable event, as it served as the first visit for a Canadian prime minister in almost two decades. With the United States presidential elections nearing, Mike Myers had some thoughts about the prime minister and the state of Canada at the moment as well as how Americans can learn from it.

Mike Myers spoke about the current state of Canadian politics.

“One of the things that Canada can offer the world is civility, and one of the great legacies that Canada may leave is that the strength of a democracy is not how well we agree but how well we disagree.”

Michael J. Fox had some more laidback comments to say about the prime minister. With high regard and praise, Michael J. Fox said he was “cool” with Justin Trudeau. Michael J. Fox spoke about how he felt about the Canadian prime minister’s father.

“I loved his dad a lot. I’m a big fan of his dad, [from] when I was a kid.”

According to SF Gate, the cast of Back to the Future reunited during the recent Silicon Valley Comic Con on March 19. Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, and Lea Thompson were all up on stage during the panel. The cast helped ease back those tender feelings of nostalgia into the fans who were in attendance in the room. Fans, being how fans usually are, tried to get the cast to tell them what their favorite moments in the series were. The cast was happy to answer and spoke about what point in time they would time travel to and where they would go, or if they would switch roles and with whom they would switch roles.

Christopher Lloyd spoke on what the films left behind for its fans.

“Back in 1985, kids saw the movie. Then they grew up and showed their kids the movie. It’s a cycle that went on and on.”

He went on to speak about how the film always managed to stay fun.

“Imagining yourself in another time is a universal fantasy everyone has. You wish you could be in the future or the past. It appeals to that very human wish.”

The panel was not without some questions that went beyond the film, though. Fans of Michael J. Fox asked him about his Parkinson’s disease. The optimistic and good-spirited actor told the fans that keeping a smile through it all it makes the biggest difference in the smallest of ways. Michael J. Fox spoke on why being optimistic through trying times gets him through.

“Things become harder to do. It is a progressive disease. I just take note of it and try to get around it. A thing I often say is, ‘You imagine the worst case scenario and you obsess about it, you lose twice.’ You can get caught up in the difficulties of it, but I try not to dwell. I smile and try to get through my day.”

Michael J. Fox has dedicated a good amount of his time towards creating a foundation for individuals with Parkinson’s disease. According to Bioscience and Technology, the Michael J. Fox Foundation is expanding its contract with Charles River Laboratories in order to further their research. A man with a good heart and a very entertaining actor, Michael J. Fox entertained countless generations with his portrayal of Marty McFly and provides optimism and a positive attitude just by being himself. Onscreen and offscreen, Michael J. Fox is a hero to so many.
