Samsung Galaxy S7 Active Release Possible?

It looks like a new variant of the 2016 flagship device is coming, as recent reports are suggesting a possible Samsung Galaxy S7 Active release. Accordingly, AT&T is currently testing out the rumored model.

Android Authority cited the Twitter posts from prolific tipster Evan Blass, also known as @evleaks, hinting that there could be a Samsung Galaxy S7 Active that is in testing at this time. In one of his tweets, Blass shared a screenshot of a Zauba listing, which, as explained by Android Authority, “contains data about imports and exports to India.”

Blass cited that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active’s model number is G890A. AT&T is currently offering the 2015 flagship variant exclusively. Meanwhile, the mobile device currently in the testing stage is SM-G891A, which led to speculations that it could be the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active. Moreover, Blass revealed that the smartphone currently being tested by AT&T goes by the codename “Samsung Poseidon.”

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is already water-resistant, with its IP68 certification. But with the rumored release of the Samsung Galaxy A7 Active variant, it is most likely that the AT&T smartphone model will have additional water resistance feature. Furthermore, those who are interested in getting their hands on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active might also see a rugged design for the smartphone. According to iDigitalTimes, this makes the rumored mobile device “dust-proof, drop-proof and perfect for more adventurous smartphone users.”

The Active line of Samsung smartphones is “intended for people who want a tough phone, that can withstand drops and even be submerged under water,” Digital Trends reported. For instance, the Galaxy S6 Active “could stay under 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes, and could also deal with dust, extreme temperature, humidity, and high altitude.”

Increased power is another possible feature of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active, as it is also possible that it will be equipped with a larger battery, compared to the standard S7 is using. Memory expansion could also be an option for those who will get the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active if it gets an official release. Accordingly, the variant could have a microSD slot.

Although nothing has been confirmed yet, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active will naturally share specs and features found from the standard variant. GSM Arena’s specs list for the Galaxy S7 noted that it has a 5.1-inch screen, 4 GB RAM, Android Marshmallow, a 12 MP primary camera, and a fingerprint sensor.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 was announced February of this year. It officially hit the shelves earlier this month, specifically on March 11. It was released together with the curved screen variant of the phone called the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

Meanwhile, for those who want to check out the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active on AT&T, the official product page said that the prices start from $19.84 per month. Full retail price is $594.99. Aside from its rugged design, other key features highlighted by the S6 Active are its 5.1-inch Quad HD display, its powerful battery, a 16MP rear camera, and Activity Zone.

The description for the smartphone, as posted on its AT&T page, read, “Sleek and lightweight, the Galaxy S6 active withstands dust and water. Our best HD display yet brings your life to light—even outdoors, and the ultra-responsive camera captures true-to-life brilliance of every experience.”
