Nick Cannon Furious Over Mariah Carey’s ‘Idol’ Judgeship [Rumor]
Nick Cannon famously said that American Idol couldn’t afford to offer wife Mariah Carey a potential judgeship. Now, rumor has it, Cannon is furious over his wife’s commitment to Idol, and it might be causing a ripple in the couple’s marriage.
According to the crack reporting team at the National Enquirer (you’ll note our sarcasm there), Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey’s marriage in on the rocks over her choice to become a judge on American Idol, a top competitor to Cannon’s talent show America’s Got Talent. A source claims that “privately, Nick’s gritting his teeth and dead-set against her taking the job. Nick was tossing around outrageous salary figures in hopes of pricing Mariah out of the market.”
“Right until the eleventh hour, he was begging her to pass on the offer. He was dangling incentives — diamond jewellery, a luxurious spa vacation, even promising to pay her a one-time ‘gift’ of $15 million for saying no.”
According to ShowbizSpy, Cannon apparently had other plans for Carey, including turning her back on her career to be a stay-at-home mom. “Nick wants her to be a stay-at-home mum to their twins,” alleged the source, “at least until they turn five. He was even hoping to have another baby, but Mariah has effectively scorched that dream.”
Doesn’t seem likely, notes EntertainmentWise, who reported that Cannon has actually been very publicly supportive of Carey’s spot on Idol. “She’s going to be amazing… people don’t know my wife’s sense of humour. They’re about to get the whole Mariah Carey, raw and uncut! And see the woman that I fell in love with,” he told Access Hollywood.
It’s hard to imagine Nick Cannon being that upset over Carey’s reported $18 million salary as an Idol judge. It’s not like they can’t afford a good au pair.
