Feline Fetish? Cat Burglar Steals Only Men’s Underwear And Socks
A wily cat burglar with a fancy for men’s underwear is currently haunting the streets of Hamilton in New Zealand and helping herself to booty.
Speaking of the term cat burglar, 6-year-old Brigit the Tonkinese is, indeed, a cat and like many other felines, tends to hunt at night. However, in her case, Brigit hunts for only certain items – socks and men’s boxer briefs.
Reportedly the cat burglar, who lives in Hamilton East, has brought home 11 pairs of men’s underpants and more than 50 socks in just two months. Well, that is the number of pilfered items her owner, Sarah Nathan, says has kept, anyway.
“It’s all men’s. It’s really, really weird. She’s got really specific taste.”
According to Nathan, she has a feeling all the items belong to one neighbor in the area, presumably as they are all of the same size and Brigit has been collecting her stock of menswear for around two of the six months they have lived in their current home.

As reported by the International Business Times, Nathan did say Brigit has always been a thief, however, it is only recently that she has become so specific on what the cat burglar pilfers and brings home.
“In our last house she’d bring home a bit of everything – she’d bring home men’s undies, women’s undies, togs, she even brought home a hockey shin pad and a jumper.”
Nathan said that she was “much less discerning” in their previous home, but has definitely decided menswear is the way to go. The weird thing is Brigit likes only a very specific kind of underwear, men’s boxer briefs.
She went on to say that initially when they moved to their George Street home, Brigit stopped her pilfering, but it seems she has now got herself acclimatized to her new surroundings and is running rampant as a cat burglar yet again.
“It’s an absolute obsession. A night does not go by without her bringing things home. I got up this morning and there were another four socks in the house.”
As with all cats and their gifts, Brigit often puts the latest booty on Nathan’s bed, and occasionally the latest undies are left outside the cat flap, sort of as a surprise for her loving owner. However, Nathan did say that after a “really big gardening session” they found a whole bunch of men’s undies stuck in the fence. She theorizes Brigit may have attempted to jump over the fence with her loot and got stuck.
The NZ Herald reports that other booty is occasionally left on the front or back doorstep and the cat burglar reportedly likes to get both socks in a pair. Nathan then finds one sock of the pair at the front door, and the other at the back door, “so she’s obviously gone back to get the matching sock.”

Fortunately for Nathan, the cat burglar’s loot does appear to be clean, as they “feel as if they’ve come off the washing line – they’ve got that crispy feeling.”
As they will be moving house again into the countryside soon, where they will have a two acre plot, Nathan says she is desperate to find the owner of the pilfered items so she can give them all back.
She has reportedly made a post on Facebook and has distributed flyers on her street to let everyone know.
“I’ve got this massive bag… You think someone would’ve noticed.”
She feels really bad about her cat’s thievery, saying some poor person must be spending a fortune on underwear.
Reportedly following her post on Facebook about her cat thief, many other social media users have shared similar stories, but none quite so extreme and specific as Brigit the cat burglar’s tale. According to Nathan, “Brigit is just more dedicated to her hunt.”
