MerchantCircle launches local business marketplace

Hyperlocal business directory provider MerchantCircle has launched “Merchant Marketplace,” a space where MerchantCircle members will be able to cut expenses through special offers from national brands.

MerchantCircle offers small businesses a web page listing, blogging and email newsletter application, and a local business network that focuses on connecting local businesses that has delivered 575,000 members. The new offering comes as value add to members at a time when the US economy is slowing and margins thin, offering lower prices that aren’t always available in SME’s.

For national brands, the program gives unique access to hard-to-reach local businesses across the United States.

MerchantCircle has taken two rounds totaling $14.1 million, and investors include Rustic Canyon Partners, Scale Venture Partners, Steamboat Ventures (Walt Disney), IAC and Square 1 Bank.
