Starving Kittens Trapped In Suitcase And Thrown Into Parking Lot Rescued By Cops

What might have started out as a horrific story about animal cruelty got a happy ending thanks to the kindness of two compassionate cops. New York police officers Nicole Piridis and Roman Goris rescued a half-dozen kittens that had been crammed inside a suitcase and chucked over a fence, saving them from the brink of starvation.

According to the Huffington Post, the NYPD reported that the six gray kittens were saved on Thursday morning after an unidentified person abandoned the suitcase in a Brooklyn parking lot. Officers Piridis and Goris wouldn’t have even known about the kittens if it weren’t for a local woman named Olivia Hustler, who was the first to find the neglected kittens. She and her husband gathered up the six kittens and took care of them in the warmth of their apartment while waiting for the cops to arrive. All of the kittens were in poor condition and still incredibly young.

“The whole morning was very sad and emotional and we just can’t comprehend how anyone could be so cruel,” Olivia Hustler said. “We would love to adopt them but we live in a small apartment and we are moving back to London in July.”

Nicole Piridis and Roman Goris responded to the call and took the poor kittens off Hustler’s hands. After snapping some photos of the police department grinning with the kittens safe in their care, the officers passed the newborns on to the ASPCA to be treated and rehabilitated for adoption. It appears there will be no difficulty finding homes for the kittens, because even some of the New York cops were eager to adopt them, according to the New York Daily News.

“There were people lined up to take them. Cops were looking to take them home,” said 90th Precinct Commanding Officer William Gardner.

The NYPD also tweeted about the rescued kittens, asking followers to submit any information that might lead to the arrest of the individual who locked the kittens in a suitcase. Anyone who might have a tip on who abandoned the kittens in the parking lot should call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.

While police are still unsure who the culprit is, surveillance cameras did manage to capture the individual on film throwing the suitcase full of kittens over the fence.

Six of the kittens have a healthy life ahead of them, though one of them had suffered an injury to the ear. Unfortunately, there was a seventh kitten who didn’t survive the suitcase incident.

Though Olivia Hustler was unable to adopt any of the kittens herself, she remains very concerned about the well-being of the surviving kittens. She tweeted in response to the NYPD asking for updates about the animals.

Other Twitter users took the opportunity to thank officer Piridis and Goris for their kindness and patience in handling the abused kittens.

“THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH OFFICERS PIRIDIS & GORIS!!” wrote one user.

“Thanks to the Awesome Officers, we need more like you!” said another.

The NYPD will continue to investigate the incident and hopes to charge the individual with animal cruelty. If they find the person who abandoned the kittens, how do you think they should be punished?
