‘Batman V Superman’ Writer Compares Film To ‘Empire Strikes Back,’ Could Superman Die?

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice is now less than two weeks away from release, which means that soon the world will know who comes out on top between the two comic book icons.

To build up anticipation ahead of the blockbuster’s release, the film’s cast and crew have now embarked on a worldwide press tour where they endlessly wax lyrical about Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

And that’s exactly what the Oscar-winning screenwriter behind the superhero hybrid, Chris Terrio, has done while talking to the Wall Street Journal. In fact the Argo scribe even compared Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice to two of the most popular film franchises in the history of celluloid. And, in the process, he immediately sparked rumors about what the shocks that the film might possess.

Batman V Superman is a bit of an Empire Strikes Back or Two Towers or any similar middle film in a trilogy,” Chris Terrio insisted. “The middle film tends to be the darkest one. I do think from Man Of Steel through Justice League, it is one saga really.”

Chris Terrio’s remarks immediately got people thinking about what he meant exactly with his comments. In both Empire Strikes Back and The Two Towers, which are from the Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings franchises, respectively, the baddies of the films ended up on top.

That’s likely going to be the case in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, too, as Warner Bros. is intent on this blockbuster kick-starting their expanding DC Cinematic Universe. In fact, the studio is already hard at work on nine different installments to this universe, and the plot of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice is expected to tease further stories that will unfold in the likes of Justice League Parts 1 & 2, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, Shazam, Cyborg, The Flash, and Green Lantern Corps.

In order to keep fans interested and invested in these films, they will need a huge event that moviegoers will then pine to see resolved. And this is likely to include the heroes of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice being defeated or left in a shambles because of the actions of Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor and Doomsday.

And it’s the inclusion of Doomsday in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice that makes Chris Terrio’s remarks regarding the film even more interesting. For those of you that don’t know, in the comic book series, Death Of Superman, it’s Doomsday that is actually able to kill Krypton’s most famous son.

And as Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice has already shown us, the huge beast is created using the DNA of General Zod (Michael Shannon) from Man Of Steel, which suggests that Doomsday is going to be a worthy adversary for Henry Cavill’s Superman in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

Further credence to this theory is the fact that, despite announcing several further instalments to the DC Cinematic Universe, Warner Bros. has yet to confirm a sequel to Man Of Steel. In fact, while Ben Affleck has already shot a cameo in Suicide Squad and the actor-director has spoken in-depth about Warner Bros. development of a solo Batman film, we’ve not heard too much more news about Henry Cavill’s involvement in the DC Cinematic Universe.

Obviously, at the moment, this is all pure speculation. But we don’t have long to wait and learn if any of it’s actually true, because Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice will be in theaters on March 25.
