Big Ang Believed She Beat Cancer, Wanted To ‘Live Life Right’


Big Ang was larger than life. She was a fan-favorite on Mob Wives for several seasons, with VH1 giving her a spin-off in 2012. The devastating cancer battle that Big Ang went through was chronicled on Mob Wives, and fans watched every minute of it. With her gone, watching the rest of season 6 is going to be hard. Drita D’Avanzo has already expressed the difficulty she is experiencing without Big Ang, and many of the other women have expressed their grief as well.

The latest episode of Mob Wives featured Big Ang having her lung surgery. Fans watched as the ladies visited her after the operation, with some photos thrown in of how she looked in the hospital following the surgery. Initially, the battle with cancer for Big Ang began last March. She was diagnosed with throat cancer, but had success beating it. After being deemed “cancer-free,” Big Ang celebrated. This lasted for only a few weeks before she got more devastating news. According to Us Weekly, Big Ang vowed to live her life to the fullest after beating cancer for the second time. More cancer was discovered while she was filming Mob Wives, but it was thought to have been gone as well. In fact, Big Ang was diagnosed with stage one lung cancer and after successful surgery, she was given a cancer-free bill of health again.

After having part of her lung removed, Big Ang was ready to live right. She was ready to spend her time focusing on the good things in life, and that only was able to happen for a short time. Just a few weeks later, Big Ang was told the cancer was back. This was not good news, and she knew it. The reality of the battle was not made public to fans. Big Ang was secretly sick, and her family was worried. As it turns out, her health declined quickly. It has only been a few weeks since the announcement of her death came, but Big Ang’s friends miss her dearly.

There is one episode left of Mob Wives, and then a reunion show will air. Big Ang was only able to tape one segment of the reunion before she lost her battle. Fans have been sharing memories of the larger than life personality, even weeks after she has been gone. Big Ang was memorialized by friends and family. According to Entertainment Weekly, Big Ang was eulogized by her good friend, Vinnie Medugno. It was written by a long-time friend of the reality star, and they requested it be shared with fans. Big Ang was a force to be reckoned with, and those her crossed her path knew that immediately.

Mob Wives will be ending with season 6, and losing Big Ang likely had a lot to do with the decision. She has been such a staple on the show, it doesn’t seem right to move on without her. While it was never confirmed that the ending was due to Big Ang battling cancer again, it is being assumed by fans. There is one more Mob Wives episode left, and then the reunion. It is expected that there will be a tribute of sorts for Big Ang. VH1 has already put together a marathon of the spin-off Big Ang was given, and they have a special photo used when the show ends. The loss of her life was devastating to those around her, and she will be missed forever. Big Ang put up a good fight, beating cancer twice before succumbing to stage four brain and lung cancer. While she may have breathed her last breath on February 18, Big Ang’s spirit will live on in the lives of family and friends.
