Daisy Ridley Records Duet With Barbra Streisand

Star Wars newcomer Daisy Ridley continues to show that she is one of the Force’s most potent allies (or is she? Episode VIII might allude to that!). The new Hollywood powerhouse has recently announced that she sang a duet with none other than Barbra Streisand.

According to Business Standard, Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams has remarked on Daisy Ridley’s great singing voice and mentioned that she would be recording a song with a veteran superstar singer. Daisy Ridley was more effusive than that, however.

“I can tell you everyone’s guesses are way off. When JJ said ‘superstar,’ he meant a legendary awe-inspiring jaw-dropping superstar,” Daisy Ridley posted via Instagram.

Daisy Ridley captured significant attention following her scene-stealing turn as the scavenger Rey, who comes to learn that she is at one with the Force. E! Online reported that Abrams first heard Daisy Ridley’s voice during the filming of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and was instantly captivated.

“One day on set, she just started singing and had the most beautiful voice I ever heard,” the director said at the U.S.-Ireland Alliance’s Oscar Wilde Awards on February 25.

Daisy Ridley was one of the honorees at the awards ceremony.

Ridley, who is currently in production on Star Wars: Episode VIII, recently remarked that the final scene in The Force Awakens was quite trying for her, as she had become quite ill. NME reported that Daisy Ridley was excited about production on Episode VIII, and while she had joked that the new film would be nothing more than two hours of her and Mark Hamill staring at each other, she was quite taken with Luke’s role in the new film.

“[Hamill is] amazing to rehearse with, and I’m very excited to be doing the rest of the stuff,” Daisy Ridley said. “It’s such a good story, seriously… Luke is so cool in this one. Really!”

While fans of the franchise have still some time to wait for the new installment in the Star Wars film franchise, it would appear that they will be able to learn about Daisy Ridley’s other talents, including singing.

For her part, Streisand has not revealed what she and Daisy Ridley recorded together, but at 73-years-old, Streisand is the top-selling female vocalist in history, according to the Daily Mail. She has recorded with the likes of Barry Gibb and Neil Diamond, among countless others.

Calling her weekend “insane,” Daisy Ridley capped off her Instagram post with a shot of her and Streisand posing together. While Streisand seems stoic, Ridley is clearly excited as she is smiling happily.

Daisy Ridley has come a long way since she first started out in the acting field. People reported that one of the first acting gigs that the actress had was for a supermarket, and she had to eat pork pie a number of times before filming was done. Ridley said that the pie was not terribly impressive.

“I was working at a pub at the time and the guy that used to come in a lot told me he had never seen anyone take a happier bite — it wasn’t happy,” she admitted. “The pork pie was really f—— grim, I was thrilled to be working.”

While the Force may not have been strong with Daisy Ridley at the time, it’s clear that the actress has come a long way since those days. Also, her duet with Streisand was not her first. According to Mashable, Daisy Ridley sang a duet with Oscar Isaac during promotional tours for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Given the blast of snow that several areas of North America got overnight, their rendition of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” seems appropriate.
