Razzies ‘Winners’ For 2016: ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Comes Out On Top Of The Heap

While tonight, the best of the best films will be honored and the stars will be anxiously waiting to see who will be bringing home the coveted Oscar statuette, last night was for losers. Every year, The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation holds the Razzie Awards ceremony on “Oscar Eve” to celebrate the worst of the worst.

This year, The 36th Annual Golden Razzie Awards were held at The Palace Theatre on Broadway Street in Los Angeles, California, in an event that was described as “shorter and not as white.” Here, the prize is a $4.97 spray-painted Golden Raspberry Statuette that has been handed out to such celebrities as Chevy Chase, Halle Berry and Sandra Bullock.

Leading the pack for winning the most awards that nobody ever wants was Fifty Shades of Grey, which tied for Worst Picture and won for Worst Actor, Worst Actress and Worst Screen Combo. In addition to tying for Worst Picture, Fantastic Four also won for Worst Remake/Rip-Off or Sequel and Worst Director. Kevin James, in the running for six awards only took home one award for Worst Screenplay for Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. The only light in this very dark tunnel was Sylvester Stallone who won this year’s Redeemer Award for his work in Creed.

This year’s list of Razzies winners (of losers if you prefer) include:
Worst Picture Tie: Fantastic Four and Fifty Shades of Grey

Night Shyamalan (“From Perennial Razzie nominee & ‘winner’ to directing the 2015 horror hit, The Visit“) and Will Smith (“For following up Razzie ‘wins’ for After Earth by starring in Concussion“)

The Golden Raspberry Foundation was created by self-proclaimed “cine-maniac and cynic” John Wilson who has fought for the underdogs of film for 36 years. The very first Razzie Award ceremony was held in 1980 in his own living room with just a handful of people. Today, it is estimated that the audience craving information about the Razzies is about two billion people.
