Kanye West: Will Ferrell ‘Is A Blessing’ In ‘Zoolander 2’

Kanye West and Will Ferrell are two celebrities who are about as opposite as they can get. However, it seems Paula Abdul had it right in her pop hit “Opposites Attract.” It’s unknown if the sentiment is reciprocated outside Will’s statement in 2011 that Kanye, Jay-Z, and himself should “hang out together.” Kanye thinks Will is one of the best things to happen to Hollywood.

This is also one of the few times Yeezy has said something positive without putting someone else down in the process. His tendency to be brash and insensitive all began during the infamous VMA ceremony where Taylor Swift won for the best music video of 2009. He’d stolen the mic out of her hand and proceeded to say, “I’m happy for you and I’m going to let you finish, but Beyonce had the best music video of all time.”

Kanye can’t seem to stay out of the spotlight after that, and he doesn’t seem to mind. His latest public spectacle, which shocked the world, was when he used another televised performance to let us all know he was running for President of the United States in 2020. Donald Trump responded with an open invitation.

Unlike Kanye West, Will Ferrell has made no such motions of grandeur. Instead, he appears to prefer to let his screen performances do the talking for him. Will has been everything from a weird underdog in The Other Guys, to a chauvinistic news personality in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, to an overgrown man-child in Step Brothers. Recent hits of his included being the villain and father in The LEGO Movie and the main antagonist for the second time in Zoolander 2.

In Ben Stiller’s return to being a male model alongside regular co-star Owen Wilson, Zoolander 2 has Derek and Hansel lured back into the fashion world. Sadly, critics have panned it as one of the worst comedies of 2016. Some might even blame the fact that Justin Bieber, the pop star the world loves to hate, had a role in it. The one thing that USA Today agrees with Kanye West on is that Will Ferrell was the best part of the film. Will reprised his original role as Jacobim Mugatu, the criminal mastermind whose assassination attempt was previously halted by Derek’s “Blue Steel” look.

Entertainment Weekly says that Kanye West has seen Zoolander 2 twice (likely one of the few who did, according to critics), and appears to be a huge fan of Will Ferrell. Kanye compared Will to a god, and proceeded to say “his existence is a blessing.”

Kanye’s apparent love for Will’s character may stem from Kanye being a fashion designer himself, at least when he’s not making hit albums and making himself a massive target in the press.

It is nice to see the “Gold Digger” rapper elevating a fellow celebrity he has almost nothing to do with for once, aside from a cameo in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. His Twitter praise mentioned nothing of Will’s other roles, though he gushed about “the years of joy he has brought into my life with amazing comedy.”
